Hi all!

I desperately need tips & old wives tales for kick starting labour naturally. I have my induction date booked in a couple of weeks and I really want to avoid an induction at all cost so I am willing to try anything!!

Also if anyone has any positive induction stories that would be nice to hear Smile

Helppppp!

You know you don't HAVE to be induced, if you and baby are fine right? There's a great Facebook page, The Positive Birth Movement, lots of great advice on there about induction etc. Baby will come when it's ready, try not to worry. The best thing to do is relax, go on lots of walks, have lots of cuddles and get your oxytocin flowing. You could try rubbing some clary sage oil into your bump too!

I'm also being induced due to gestational diabetes but have been told there's an acupuncture offered by the midwives in my area from 38 weeks with a high success rate for bringing on labour. I'm going to try it

I was induced at 39 weeks and it was fine. Had waters broken at mid day, went on drip at 4. Gradually turned up until 6.30 ish when it started. 7PM it was full blown labour, contractions were very strong and painful. Midwife had gone to get pethidine when I wanted to push, I didn't even have pants off!!! I literally gave 3 pushes and out he came at 7.28pm. He was my second baby my first took 3 hours of pushing to come out!!! I recovered very quickly and went home the next morning.

Completely agree with @witchy89. Your body, your baby, your decision.

I was dreading my induction but it wasn't that bad. Everyone I had spoken to prior had got me so worked up about avoiding it.

Beseen19 · 20/02/2020 04:28

I was induced with my first and it was a much shorter, better labour than my second which wasnt induced. Was in active labour for around 4 hours, only had a pessary and they broke my waters and that set off my labour, didn't need a drip. Had a bad tear but that's down to my anatomy and big headed children as reqd episitomy second time.
My BIGGEST tips are to make your birth plan that you want the golden hour with your baby (I also included that I wanted delayed cord clamping and didn't want to give birth on my back). So you can still have the more natural aspects even in a more medically controlled labour ward. I had to go to theatre after for my tear repair but my amazing midwife got the baby on my chest and he latched on straight away and we cuddled for a full hour.

My 2nd birth I was booked in for induction and went into labour the night before but the real reason was a fairly thorough examination by a doctor with big hands which put me into labour!

You're not supposed to say this and I'm sure I'll get flamed for it...but at 40+10 with number 2 castor oil worked for me. It's totally gross, I made it into a smoothie with banana and lots of cocoa and milk so you couldn't taste it too much, and I only put a couple of tbsp in. In labour 4 hours later, home birth as planned 7 hours after that...could've just been coincidence though!

Clary sage in your bath and as a massage oil for your bump. Keep moving and most of all relax as much as you can unfortunately only this stuff works if baby is ready but you can certainly help it along. I’m also using EPO internally and orally along with RLT with plenty of bouncing and circles on my gym ball. Good luck and even if you do get induced it will be okay. Keep upright as much as you can and totally agree with PP you can still keep natural aspects have your comforts and your space cosy and comfortable, not forgetting that golden hour afterwards x

Are you having a sweep before hand? That started my labour at 37 weeks, induction was booked for the Friday, sweep on the Tuesday, sent me into labour that day, she arrived early wednesday am

Thanks everyone that’s really helpful and nice to hear of some positive stories!

I was doing hypnobirthing and giving birth in a birth center but they found out at 35 weeks babies baseline heart rate is lower than average but cannot find any explanation why. So now I have to be monitored throughout birth which means good bye birth center and hello induction if she doesn’t come on time 😔 I know I have to do it for the health of my baby but I just feel so anxious and out of control now and every appointment I have all my hypnobirthing training goes out of the window and I just feel panicked and don’t know what to ask. I’m not even an anxious person in general I think it’s just the stress of it all

@Beseen19 yes i definitely need to update my birth plan now thank you so much for the tip!

@canihaveacoffeeplease haha my mum said this to me! I have some for my hair maybe I’ll use it on my scalp for my hair and will have a psychological effect!

@katienana thank you for your positive story!!

Thanks everyone for the positive stories and helpful tips!

I have done hypnobirthing and my plan was for a water birth but unfortunately at 35 weeks they found out babies baseline heart rate was low with no medical explanation really and so now I have to be monitored throughout the birth and of course induced as they won’t let me go over!

Feeling so anxious as I feel all my hypnobirthing training goes out the window at all my appointments because I feel so panicked about my ideal birth being taken away. 😔

@Beseen19 yes I definitely need to update my plan! Thanks for the tip!

@canihaveacoffeeplease haha my mum said this! I have some for hair! Maybe I’ll use it and hope it has a placebo effect!

I have heard mixed stories about induction, so I wouldn't automatically assume it's all bad. The fastest birth in our NCT group was someone who was induced - less than 4 hours start to finish and she had only needed gas and air. So keep your head up and know that you've got this!

I wasn't induced but was overdue. I walked a lot, bounced on a ball, drank a lot of pineapple juice and tried reflexology. No idea if any of it actually worked though, or if baby would have come then anyway!

EvilEdna1 · 20/02/2020 09:52

Reflexology on the same day as a cervical sweep. Preferably after the reflexology afterwards.

SerendipitySunshine · 20/02/2020 09:55

Would you feel less worried about a c section? Due to a health issue I was told I'd need to be induced early but looked at the risks of instrumental birth and emcs and requested an elcs, which they agreed to.

chrestomamci · 20/02/2020 09:59

I had 3 amazingly positive inductions. It's not always bad and scary. had no interventions like forceps / no damage to me. 2 were because placenta had failed so was monitored throughout its really not that bad

You can still use your hypnobirthing
