Painkillers during pregnancy

Just looking for opinions from others on the use of over-the-counter painkillers during pregnancy.

Initially I intended to not use any painkillers during pregnancy (paracetamol etc), and I managed to put off using them for things like headaches etc.

I'm now 22 weeks and have awful back pain, hot water bottles / baths / showers aren't offering any comfort. Should I try something like paracetamol? Part of me is thinking that I really can't complain about being in pain if I haven't tried such a readily available option. The other part of me is thinking that I'm only going to get bigger, and probably more sore, over the next 18 weeks and it can't be healthy to take painkillers for the next four months.

What do you think?

Don't be a martyr, take paracetamol, it's absolutely fine.

Also talk to your midwife, it's probably PGP and there are some things that can help - ask her to refer you to physio.

Paracetamol is absolutely fine, just not Ibuprofen

Like others said paracetamol is fine i took it when pregnant and have a healthy 15wk old.also had it given to me by dr when in hospital pregnant.

I have chronic sciatica and also suffered with severe SPD in pregnancy, so I pretty much took paracetamol every day - as advised by Dr and midwife. I also had a repeat prescription for codeine which I could use when the pain was extreme.

Take the paracetamol you will be fine, it's deemed as safe during pregnancy. There's no sense in you suffering needlessly.
