I am 8 weeks pg and have hyperemesis (for the 2nd time). I have lost nearly a stone already and I can't face looking at/smelling/eating any food. Can anyone suggest anything that I might be able to eat? The only think that I can stomach at the moment is cornflakes (which I don't ususally eat funnily enough!) and they do come back up anyway, but not every time. Was there anything at all that you ladies with this horrible illness could stomach?

I am told the best one is Zofran but in relaity its different for everyone.

Avomine is also known as Phenergan, its usually used as a travel sickness remedy! Totally knocked me out which probably was one of the main reasons it wprked, tbh.

AM fortunate to have PC by sofa LOL- so I MN in ten minute bouts, thn collapse back on it again . Poor DH having to do a massive clear up as we have the tenancy renewal inspection today and the kids chose last nigt for a spree (toothpaste everywhere, even a teabag in the cistern!).

flightattendant · 05/09/2007 13:07

Wow, I had Phenergan (promethazine I think?) and it wasn't brilliant but I'm sure it helped...yes, makes you a bit sleepy!

Poor thing, hope it passes soon...I had 2 boys as well, so not sure if a girl would be even worse...

flightattendant · 05/09/2007 13:08

Oh good luck with the renewal!! Kids know when to muck up the house don't they!

Peachy · 05/09/2007 16:01

Renewal OK (pjew! We rent a gorgeous old cottage and it's nigh on impossible to get anything else like this round this way!).

Have you ahd a look at the medication list on blooming awful? taht's pretty comprehensive.

flightattendant · 05/09/2007 16:16

Thanks Peachy, Will do. I never checked out BA for some reason!
Glad you got house sorted, we're in the same boat, just got another year...there's nothing round here we can afford except this one!!! Wish we could buy it one day, it'll be sold when we leave

Hope you feel better x

Peachy · 05/09/2007 16:20

we can afford another but there just are no other 3 beds, we live in the centre of a really old village and the vast majority of cottages have been converted to 2 beds with upstairs bathrooms, useless for us! Mind you, we can only afford it becuase Dh works across the Bridge (Severn), on local wages he'd have such a drop in income it'd be impossible.

We did own once, but Dh was ill for a long time and couldn't work, so we had to sell up . We'd love to buy again and maybe we will, but we rather appreciate the stability we have atm, nice landlords / estate agents and although Dh has a commute, its a ten minute walk to uni for me, 3 minutes to school which os GOOD LOL!

flightattendant · 05/09/2007 16:26

Sounds gorgeous! Ours is falling down a bit but we love it anyway!

Peachy · 05/09/2007 16:28

It is gorgeous but- and this si the only downer- we're so far from friends and family and atm I am really missing that , they're all in Somerset. We'd both happily move back but then i oculdn't graduate, which would be a waste of 2 years and dragging the kids away from nurseries / schools they were happy with

flightattendant · 05/09/2007 17:11

Yeah it must be so hard not to have some help around, when I was Pg my Mum took Ds1 off a lot of the time, just because I couldn't really cope and was on my own.

Hope you are not lying there alone all day, must be awful.

Peachy · 05/09/2007 17:17

Sadly, I pretty much have ben (Dh is sometimes here though- shifts) as my 'friend' suddenly vanished when she realised the bloke next door she ahd a crush on didnt want her (hardly a surprise, he's our Professor).

however Uni starts up soon so will get out a bit more then hopefully . have a feeling bump will be quite popular LOL

flightattendant · 05/09/2007 17:21

Yes that sounds good, hopefully you might be feeling more up to it by then, if you're about 10 weeks...is it at its worst right now? I seem to remember mine was bad before it got better iyswim...build up of hormone levels or something, then they start circulating only in the uterus rather than your whole body, so it eases...?
Bummer about your friend! Are the other DC's at school...do they understand?

Peachy · 05/09/2007 17:30

DS1 and DS2 are at school, they understand. DS3 is ASd and fairly severely (as oppsoed to ds1 who isn't severe) and not yet at school (Easter start) so can't understand. his friend at Cm ahs a sibling due just before though which may help LOL. And my sister is due Novermber. Fortunately I have a mahoosive family, so when we go back they're well loved and busy (Dad was one of 16!)

flightattendant · 05/09/2007 17:52

16! Jeepers! I've always loved the idea of having a big family. Ours is pretty small. I'm glad your other children are not under your feet all day, at least...I found coping with a 3 year old almost impossible at times, I'm sure he suffered, I wish I had had a childminder then as it would have saved him going through some bad days with me.
I think you're really, really brave to do it again knowing what HG is like, I'm not sure if I will be able to face it but I love babies, and would love to have some more...if I meet the right man that is!

Thinking of you and take care xx

TheMadHouse · 05/09/2007 18:01

Hi there

I suffered with serve HG with both my boys and it was awful, but the end results were worth it.

I was on Cyclizine (sp) by inject 3 times a day and also steriods, but this just reduced the frequency of the sickness, not the nausea. I also needed vit b tablets from the doctor and iron injections. Spent most of my first preh in hospital, but by the second (15 month gap between my two) just ensured I kept as much fluid in as possible.

I also tried seabands, acupuncture (gave relief for an hour or two), reflexology and most other remedies.

I found salty food helped early in the pregnany, I also used to have ice pops, frozen yoghurt and ice cream. I even had MacDonlads, which I hate with a vengence normally.

Both my boys were born at 37 weeks in order to stop the sickness, but they were really good sizes (7'2 and 7,4 respectivly)

DH is on the list for the snip, as I can not go through it again.

susiemj · 05/09/2007 18:05

Hi Crokky,
lots of good advice here. If you want a moan/supprt/advice from other sufferers you could also have a look at the hyperemesis support group website at www.hyperemesis.org.uk
I'm a member and the chat group has been invaluable at times. It's a condition that isn't very known about and it can help you feel like others out there understand.

Not that they don't on here!

Peachy · 05/09/2007 18:05

Don't blame you amdhouse, dh is having the snip too- tbh not sure if we'd have done it (though how can I know?) if we hadn't wanted to give ds2 as big a chance of having a NT sibling as possible- we did wwant 4 to start but the cost may well ahve outweighed all else, iyswim.
