Bleeding at 5 weeks after toilet

Have been extremely constipated and have just managed to go to the toilet, however, after pushing (sorry, TMI) there was blood on the toilet paper. It was definitely vaginal and was pinky/red. Has anyone had this? Terrified I've caused a problem by going to the toilet. Do I just wait it out and see what happens?

Unfortunately this is how my mmc started - altho did have brown discharge the day before and then had red after pushing ...

Fingers crossed for you, maybe call your early pregnancy unit x

Really sorry to hear you went through that. Did your bleeding continue straight away?

I bled brown blood with my first and miscarried....

I bled red blood after straining for bowel movements during my 2nd pregnency... he is currently fast asleep upstairs Smile

I bled brown blood with this pregnancy at 6 weeks and am now 15+ weeks and all going well.

So please dont stress yourself out xxx

In my 2nd pregnancy i bled loads, most days for about the first 17 weeks. I had a friable cervix... basically means the blood flow to my cervix made it bleed when i strained. It was bright red fresh blood like id cut myself. Sometimes bled after sex too.

If you have no cramps then dont be too alarmed. Do you have a local epu near you for a check up tomorrow?

Tesco glycerol suppositories were my life saver when constipated during early pregnancy. Just pop one in amd 10 mins later nice easy poo!! Highly reccomended!

Thank you. I don't have any cramping and as far as I can see it was only that small amount when I wiped. I'll keep checking. I will look in to my local EPU tomorrow. I haven't even registered with midwife yet as it is so early... I don't want to waste their time when there's probably nothing they could see/do at this stage anyway. This is my first pregnancy and I'm constantly on edge, fearing the worst!

Dont need a midwife to refer you to epu.

Just call youp GP first thing and ask that they refer you asap. You should be seen within a dsy or so.

If they arnt horrendously busy they may accept a self referral .

Totally normal to be anxious. And whilst you rightly point out there is nothing they could do to prevent a loss, there is no harm in being looked after or helped through it xx

How are you today? Yes I carried on bleeding and it got steadily worse, I had no cramps as I'd actually lost the baby a couple of weeks before.

However, I'm now 21 weeks pregnant and had an episode of bleeding earlier on which never turned out to be anything.

Epau were fab with me and got me straight in for a scan which sets your mind at rest either way.

Babbabump · 18/02/2020 14:06

And by steadily worse I mean, started off just when I went to the toilet, then a bit first thing in the morning or after standing after a while etc

QueSera · 18/02/2020 14:09

I'd probably try to get a scan if I were you. Good luck OP.

Thanks for checking in everyone. I haven't had any more bleeding so am hopeful that it was a one off. I'm inspecting the toilet paper after every visit! I've bought something to help go to the toilet as recommended by PP. Will monitor over the next few days. Thanks again everyone.

The same happened to me last week (8 weeks). Epu scanned me and all was fine. They couldn't see a reason for the bleed and said it's common in pregnancy, that the cervix can get irritated easily and bleed slightly. I haven't had any more spotting since.

Fingers crossed the same goes for you xx

onetiredmummy13 · 18/02/2020 23:48

Could just be implantation bleeding. I was told they don't worry about a little brown or pink blood but they worry about bright red. Best to get checked to stop yourself worrying. Also try lactulose and suppositories if it gets bad again straining will just cause piles xxxx

Babbabump · 19/02/2020 18:28

That sounds really positive! Good luck and fingers crossed th rest goes smoothly for you!!

Babyshine2020 · 19/02/2020 20:53

I had this, and baby is still happy and growing, I was told by my MW that if you have a delicate cervix the straining for the loo could irritate it causing the bleed - if it hasn't happened since I'd try to get more fibre and drink more water and just mention it at your scan xx
