Can you walk into the hospital?

Hi all. I have just done a pregnancy test and it is very boldly positive. I really want to go to the hospital to confirm it. Do you know if I can just walk in to a hospital and have a test or do you need to book an appointment ? I can't find anything online. Thanks.

Women of childbearing years are always asked for a urine sample if they attend A&E for any reason and a pregnancy test is completed to rule out pregnancy for whatever they might be presenting with. They use the cheapest, most generic pregnancy tests you can buy so actually confirmation at a hospital would be nothing more than another pregnancy test anyway.
You can pay for a private early scan, most recommend waiting until you think you’re 6 weeks as that’s roughly when a heartbeat will develop so they can confirm pregnancy as well as confirm that the baby is doing well at that point. I did this when I was 8 weeks pregnant as my NHS 12 week scan wasn’t actually booked until I was 13 weeks and I found out at 3 weeks so it was just too long to wait for me. It cost about £80 I think but really was worth it in my opinion.

The last thing you want to do is waste NHS time just to "confirm" your pregnancy. Your GP should be your next point of contact, they will refer you for your midwife and first scan. Congrats on your pregnancy, you're just over 5 weeks.

A test won't tell you how far along you are.

Ring your GP and they will tell you the next steps. Where I am, you self refer, where my sister is the GP refers you.

Then you'll get a 'booking in' appointment.

At no point in the process will they do another test.

My local a&e hospital did a blood test when I had bleeding so I knew my HCG levels but even this varies so you wouldn’t know without a scan.

I booked a private scan to see how far I was and for reassurance and I was only 5 weeks
