Hi all,
Is paracetamol safe for the first trimester?

I'm 9 weeks and feel absolutely horrendous, I've got what I think Is laryngitis, have a red raw throat, voice has totally gone then over night one of my ears was so painful and I feel loads of pressure in it, plus banging headache.

Is it safe to take paracetamol??? Xx

Yes it’s fine. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Opinions vary. There was research last year that said it was linked to later behavioural issues. I chose to avoid it because I was nervous about taking any risk.

Poor you! Yes paracetamol is fine, just don’t go over the dose recommend on the packet. Avoid ibuprofen and Lemsip. Rest if you can and drink lots of water. Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you all xx I will use sparingly. Hopefully this shifts soon Confused xx

I heard the behavioural issues thing to and so have avoided it so far - I haven't had laryngitis though! If I was really in pain like that I'd probably go for it. NHS say it's fine.

BadCatDirtyCat · 16/02/2020 08:25

And I hope you feel better soon!

I had similar with my 2nd pregnancy and I took them continuously. Baby was absolutely fine

Get well soon xxx

Thank you xx managed to survive the day so far without them. Think I'll take some before bed, the pain in my ear/face is bad when I lie down.

Thanks for your advice ladies xx

I’ve been the exact same for the past week! Lost my voice completely.. worst sore throat I have ever experienced! I was in so much pain I had to take something so I had paracetamol as my doctor said it was fine to do so, I just took as little as I felt was necessary and obviously did not exceed the recommended dosage. Lots of hot water with honey and lemon seemed to help too! Hope you feel better soon xx

Take the drugs! Goodness, why do women feel they have to suffer awfully during pregnancy?! My first, I took 2x anti-sickness for HG, steroid inhalers for an asthma flare up asthma, 6/7 rounds of antibiotics for reoccurring UTI’s, paracetamol as needed & antihistamine when I couldn’t open my eyes from heyfever! DD is a happy, healthy, sociable toddler. Pretty well behaved for a two year old actually. I mean she has her moments, some days are tantrum central but she’s two!

Paracetamol is the safest drug out there. It’s been used for years & years & years. If you feel awful, then take it! You don’t have to suffer!

Bol87 · 17/02/2020 08:26

Please read the NHS guidance rather than the gutter press:

www.nhs.uk/news/pregnancy-and-child/can-taking-paracetamol-pregnancy-lead-child-behavioural-problems/

The people who did the research concluded they can’t find cause & affect between paracetamol & behavioural issues. There are too many other factors involved!

Snoopy28x · 17/02/2020 13:50

Thank you for that. I feel like there are so many "rules" to follow during pregnancy and the scare stories surrounding them, sometimes it's easier to suffer.

I will try to stop over thinking everything xx
