Breastfeeding with implants

Hi,

I have read a lot about women who are still able to breastfeed after having breast implants, however I have only read successful stories of the women who had the implants under the muscle. My breast implants are over the muscle and I was wondering if anybody managed to breastfeed with over the muscle implants?

Ypu can but not always when there over the muscle unfortunately this varys from person to person ypu wont really know until you try unfortunately x

It's not impossible but much more difficult as the implant can affect supply. Like PP said, you won't know until you try x

When I had my first child the midwife squoze my breasts and only the tiniest amount of colostrum came out? However I wasn't told by the the hospital that your milk could come in a few days later and I formula fed in the hospital as I got the impression that I wasn't able to. However would I not have leaked breast milk a few days later or would it have just disappeared as I wasn't actively breastfeeding?

Just assume that you can.

Mine are under the muscle. I know that wasn’t the experience you wanted. FWIW I had zero issues feeding and fed successfully until I decided to stop when baby was 8 months.

Did your milk come in? (You'd know if it had, it's unmistakable).
If it didn't last time then it's unlikely to unless you have the implants removed. You could always get them put back afterwards?

Thinking about it my breasts became really full and large a few days later but as I assumed I couldn't I didn't think anything of it (they didn't leak however) - I am already 12 weeks pregnant so I won't be able to have them out. What do you think?

I breastfed myself, but I'm fairly certain your milk comes in regardless of whether you ever use the colostrum or not, but I don't think your boobs necessarily leak just because your milk has come in. In fact, I'd assume that if you never attempted to properly bf the colostrum, your milk wouldn't come in as heavily as if you'd actively used it. Every woman is different. I did leak, but I have friends who breastfed who never ever leaked, even when they hadn't fed for hours and were super full! I was the unlucky one who's boobs leaked through her swimsuit when I went swimming! 🤣
You can but hope my dear x

I was encouraged to express colostrom because my baby went to SCBU. I struggled to get even a few drops at first but still went on to exclusively breastfeed from day three onwards with no supply problems. I don’t have implants so can’t comment on that but wanted to say it’s quite normal to not get much colostrom at first and that in itself doesn’t mean you can’t breastfeed. I think as a PP says you just have to try and see what happens. See if your maternity unit has a specialist midwife who can help with latch etc., that’s what made the difference for me.

Thanks so much for your reply's, I wish I would have been told this in the hospital after I had my first, I was so worried that my baby would starve and I wasn't advised otherwise. I have more of an insight this time and will continue to try. I did see colostrum come out which is obviously something but because I wasn't encouraged to carry on I assumed I couldn't....

Hey. Mine are under and I had absolutely no problems with either baby.
I know that's not what you asked, but the reason I say that is because when I was pregnant and spoke to midwives about it, and also at breastfeeding sessions after having them, they never asked if the implant was over or under and always said they wouldn't affect it.

Good luck
