Decision on best mode of delivery

So in last labour I had a huge pph. A natural birth but a long back to back labour where they made a few mistakes .

This time they still say a vaginal delivery is safer. Fine. But I've had 7 episodes of reduced movement. I'm 38+3 and have been told I'm allowed to be induced next friday if I wish. I also have the choice of a sweep Monday with my midwife.
I'm thinking if going for the sweep as theres lessvrisk of pph. Unfortunately there is an increased risk of bleeding with induction which puts me off. I also want baby to be safe.

No ones mentioned a c section as it seems they still see that as most risky for me.

I could also wait till I'm full term.

I don't know what I'm looking g for on here. I guess some experience and advice as I'm scared and a little confused.

Hi, I don't have any expertise I'm afraid but my understanding is that induction can mean a higher chance of instrumental delivery - have they mentioned that at all?

I would raise the option of a c section with them - maybe there's a good reason why they don't think it would be suitable but worth asking at least.

I'm sorry it does sound scary Flowers. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along soon.

My first labour was an induction which ended in a very quick birth (14 mins active labour!) and a bad tear and PPH. My GP said I could absolutely have a c section next time if I wanted to.

Do you have any other risk factors that could be against you for a c section? I would raise it with your consultant and see what they say.

Sorry you're scared...ultimately you should be fine whatever the mode of delivery, but I understand the feeling of worrying about what might be best for you and your baby and hope someone can help you make a decision you're happy with Flowers

Hi OP, also not a doctor, but having been in a similar position I would definitely ask what the chances are of a successful induction at 39 weeks. If you have a high chance of ending up with an emergency section, an elective may be preferable for you. Also if you would prefer the increased chance of instruments with an induction over a caesarean.

Having been induced last time and ended up with forceps, my personal choice would be a caesarean over an induction. I have no risk factors for surgery. A caesarean is safe for me, subject to a increased relative risk of maternal death, which is minuscule in real terms.

Your preferences or risk profile may be different (bleeding is a risk of a section but no idea what influence a previous PPH has on that) but definitely ask about your options, and if having taken their advice you prefer a caesarean then stand your ground. Also bear in mind that unfortunately some doctors ham up the risks of sections and underplay the risks of VB so it’s worth doing your own research and going in informed.

Remember that whatever you decide, it’s highly likely that they will help ensure you and your baby are safe.

Best of luck with the new arrival Flowers

I had a pph with dc1 (lost 3.5 litres). Had an elcs with dc2 and it was absolutely fine! Hardly lost any blood at all. My hemorrhage was caused by severe tearing according to the consultant who had been through my notes so a c section was deemed safer in my case. Definitely ask about a cs and see what they say.

I'm suprised they don't want baby out sooner after 8 instances of reduced movements. I was told that if I had three or more they would be looking to deliver any time from 37 weeks
