my DH keeps going on about filming the birth of our first child due in feb. i am already dreading giving birth and the last thing i want while sweating and screaming in labour is DH shoving the camcorder in my face, has anyone else had a DH/DP wanting to film the birth? did you let them and if not how did you get them to forget the idea and shut up about it?

Absolutely not no way.

Our hosp did not allow camcorders in anyway (too distracting apparently).

my DH really wanted to... we asked the consultant, he said we could film anything up to the moment of birth, and then once baby delivered, but not the delivery itself

i did point out to DH he might be rather busy supporting me when i was birthing

in the end , he did a bit of me at the hospital ( i was extremely grumpy and he switched camera off )

and there is video of DD as she was place on my belly before she had taken a breath

and i am so so so so so glad i have that video

it means the world to me

don't have any of DS as he was emergency c.s but there is some hilarious footage of me in labour, after having diamorphine..i look p*ssed!

DH didn't want to film the birth - and tbh I don't even think it had crossed his mind to take any photos..........however when I had DS3 my Doula told him to take a photo as I was pushing him out.......didn't realise at the time that he'd taken on - and nearly throttled him when he told me BUT I actually really like the photo - one of those unrepeatable/unre-enactable moments captured too.

you are the one giving birth and therefore you need to relax. Anything that does not help you must go, including the camcorder!

TheQueenOfQuotes · 03/09/2007 20:17

you know what crokky - I had my back to DH for most of labour and birth (kneeling on the bed facing the wall) and he could have been dancing naked round the room and I probably wouldn't have notice

Desiderata · 03/09/2007 20:19

Ooooooooooooh, no! Do you really want your child, 16 years from now as he/she rifles through your possessions, putting that on the computer and getting a face full of your fanjo?

paulaplumpbottom · 03/09/2007 20:19

Don't do it, he might be tempted to show it to someone

Chirpygirl · 03/09/2007 20:22

Dh didn't film the birth and certainly wouldn't have been allowed to (by me!) even if we weren't in theatre but he did take a video of me with DD when we were in recovery and I was getting a proper look at her for the first time. I love it and it still makes me weepy to watch it!
Maybe suggest he supports you but gets the camera out once the baby is born, those first moments being recorded are definately worth looking like shite on film IMO

froozykins · 03/09/2007 20:26

mmm, some mixed opinions, i just know that this is not the kind of thing i want filmed, photos afterwards when im decently covered are fine but not camera lenses pointing at my lady bits. Dah will load it onto his laptop and would probably end up showing people at work, strangers from the next office or even worse, his dad!!

froozy - the "bits" you can see of the picture I have that DH took is my ar*e

Bibis · 03/09/2007 20:28

Ooooohhh I really wish my dh had filmed it , it was such a positive experience I relive it in my head even now (18 months later).

I had had two rubbish births earlier and one other positive one, but it is a major regret that we hadn't talked about it before hand and when my dh started filming i told him to 'go away' as i thought he was taking a photo, somehow that would have been a lot worse

maxbear · 03/09/2007 22:24

It didn't occur to me to have photos or film first time round until about 30secs after birth my sister just asked me if I wanted a photo. I was so totally pleased to have a photo of my dd so soon after birth and it was so precious to me that second time round my sister took photos of the whole thing. Again they are great photos and I have shown them to a few people some of whom say wow what fab photos and some of whom think it is a bit odd really. Next time I would prob go for photos again but might go for a film.

Hell no.

I didn't even have a video made of my wedding.

And I looked good for that...
