Hi I am 21 weeks today, first pregnancy as an (official term) geriatric mum to be. So all very new to me, no matter how many of my friends are well experienced in this field and ive spoken too! I've had a 20 week scan last week and all was normal however I'm still not feeling any movement and am worried that I should feel something....one minute I think I have felt a 'flutter' and then i dont know if it is wind! Cause I am suffering in that department too due to additional iron intake and progesterone supplements. Any advice here is most welcome, thankyou. I know I can call my midwife, but looking for any thoughts on here from experience mums too.

Hi there , am pregnant with my first baby , a bit further on , I had the same worries when I was at your stage too , firstly do you have an anterior placenta ? Because it can affect how much movement you feel at that stage because it cushions the baby so harder to feel the movement, aslo the baby is still small and therefore still has lots of space to move around before you can feel anything , the flutters you think you feel could be the movement as it's so subtle at that point . I'd say give it another 3 -4 weeks and you'll be able to feel more definite movement

@dreamer2 thanks for your message, placenta is behind the baby as of last scan. I did think it's still so small so that is probably why - just constantly worrying. Doesnt help with people saying 'youre not very big are you for 20 weeks!' anxiety rears its head and I think i should be feeling more. Trying desperately to enjoy this miracle pregnancy! thanks again for your advice.

It is still early, the NHS say between 16-24 weeks so keep holding on and i'm sure you will feel baby soon! You may have already felt them with the fluttering sensation you explained - that's exactly how mine felt at first - and I was always in the bath when I felt him those first few times so maybe try a bath and concentrate on your tummy for a while!

Delbelleber · 13/02/2020 13:54

I'm having my 3rd baby and didn't feel definite movements until 22+2

Catlover10 · 13/02/2020 13:57

I didn’t feel any kicks or anything whatsoever that I could definitely put down to baby until exactly 21 weeks when I felt him kick while laying in bed. The fact that your anomaly scan went well is a great thing. You should start feeling things within the next few weeks, but I don’t notice much in the day it’s only when it’s silent and no distractions around that I notice at the moment.

hamjul · 13/02/2020 14:05

@BeautyAndTheBump1 thankyou! I shall bear that in mind when choosing to have a bath or shower, and concentrate on the tummy!

@Delbelleber thankyou, I have read that for first time mums it can take longer to feel the movements good luck with your 3rd :)

@Catlover10 thanks so much for your advice, i keep reminding myself that the anomaly scan was good and that was only last week. First time mum to be nerves...

Hi. Congratulations.
I was the same as you with my first pregnancy. I didn’t have a bump at all until probably 5.5/6months.
Here is a picture of my bump at 20 weeks!

I didn’t feel any movements until 28/29 weeks. I had some growth scans at around 27 weeks as I was worried and all the comments about not looking pregnant had got to me.
My belly did pop at the end and was a good size, though not huge.
I had a wonderfully healthy lively child too.

I’m pregnant again now and hoping I’ll
Be lucky again this time. I stayed relatively for and mobile.
I know it’s hard not to worry but I wouldn’t be concerned about lack of movement yet. It will come. It isn’t far away.

@Seekingadviceagain2020 Amazing thanks for your message and photo! I show more that you did but people still feel the need to make comments don't they! Im seeingthe consultant on the 24th so will have a quick scan then, they have not been concerned about size so I guess as you said its a case of be patient! good luck with your pregnancy, thanks again - great advice :)

I'm 20 weeks and today had my scan. I'm not really feeling much either and although I look pregnant I'm not massively big either (I'm also petite 😩) so don't worry! I think it's completely normal not to feel much yet. And like the others said, it can depend on your placenta position too. Also our little one is currently breech which may be another reason not to feel anything yet

Puddleshook · 13/02/2020 18:26

It's normal. You'll know when you feel it, it will be like butterflies in your stomach at first.

SnoozyLou · 13/02/2020 18:28

Those sound like movements to me. It's barely discernible to start with.

I didn't feel movements with my first until 25 weeks. It's normal.

LH1987 · 13/02/2020 18:37

Hi OP, I didn't feel anything (at all) until 21 + 5, now I can feel the flutters quite a bit. I dont have anterior placenta by the way.

JadeLemonade · 13/02/2020 21:43

I’m 21 weeks too and haven’t felt any movements yet. Everything was fine at my 20 week scan. Bet we’ll feel a bit of movement soo xx

YeOldeTrout · 13/02/2020 21:50

I think I got to at least 22 weeks before feeling movements with baby 4. He's still a placid guy. :)

emilyldn · 13/02/2020 23:05

With my first I didn't feel movements till around 26 weeks. With my second around 19. And I wonder when this time!

It's completely normal. From 25 weeks onwards they ask you to start taking notes and be aware of it for first time mums x

However at any point you feel anxious, just pop into the day unit and get a heart rate checked etc for peace of mind x

hamjul · 14/02/2020 10:38

Thankyou everyone on here for your advice, all noted x

Hi OP I had my 29 week scan yesterday and was asked if I'd felt movement by both sonographer and midwife. I said that I'd felt some things but had no idea if it was baby or wind. They both said if you're noticing things it is probably baby. I have an anterior placenta so wasn't too concerned anyway but that put my mind at rest, especially when I could see baby wriggling around
