Hello

Just wondering what everyone's partners did regarding paternity leave. Did they take the full 2 weeks off? Use annual leave?

How much time did everyone take off, is 2 weeks too much?

This is my first so i don't know what to expect and how much time he should have off Smile

We're very lucky that DH's company gives 12 weeks paternity at full pay. My DH will use that plus 2 weeks' annual leave so we will have 14 weeks at home together. Hope I don't get sick of him Grin I have visions of us spending a lovely chilled summer having long lazy lunches at local cafes and walking in the park, but I suspect that as a first time mum I have rose tinted glassed and the reality will be very different

My husband will be taking 6 weeks in total: 2 weeks paternity, 2 weeks annual leave and 2 weeks unpaid.
I can't stress enough how much I appreciate this. We live remotely, far away from friends and family so I would literally be on my own otherwise.

My husband will have six months off... I can't wait.

DH took 1 week pat leave and then worked from home for a bit while my family supported me. He then took 2 weeks off after they left and has since agreed a flexible working schedule. It’s important he gets to bond with baby as I am the main earner and after mat leave he will need to do the bulk of the weekly childcare

My DH is taking 2 weeks annual leave and that's it, we cant afford for him to take paternity at £148 a week as my income will only be £148 a week, we will struggle with him at full pay and me on maternity pay let alone both of us on maternity pay.

id love to have him off for longer but with a mortgage and bills to pay, its just not an option.

Hope it all works out for everyone xx

So jealous of the people who get 3+ months of full paid paternity leave :(
My DH has 2 weeks full pay, not company policy but he had some annual leave left from last year deliberately carried over because we couldnt afford 2 weeks on statutory.

@RhymingRabbit3 We feel really lucky this time as it seems to run the same for male and female at hubby's work. 6 months full, 5 months statutory pay and 1 month unpaid. I am not sure how long his company will continue this as it only came in in January. His bosses have already asked if he cannot take the full 6 months (although he is entitled to it). We are aiming for 5 so we can have a lovely summer with our older son and make it more about him than the baby (worried he will feel left out), but we are worried how it will effect his job on his return.

Two weeks paternity and a week and half annual leave - it has flown! He goes back to work Monday and wish he didnt have too !
