I'm about 8wks pregnant now. I've been on and off medication for depression since my teens. I've had a good run of not taking meds for about 5 months but now I'm struggling. Probs hormones gone awry but all I wanna do is sleep, feeling exhausted physically and emotionally. I don't feel excited or happy atm just kinda mechanically getting through the day and crying a lot. I took yesterday off work and called the gp who Did a call back and said if I still feel bad after the 1st trimester then they will look at putting me on meds. Not sure how I'm going to cope for the next 4 week's. I'm off work today as well :(

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time OP Thanks I've struggled with bouts of depression and anxiety throughout my life and found that being pregnant has upped the ante somewhat (I'm 11 weeks currently).I'm taking comfort in the fact that the exhaustion is perfectly normal in the first trimester, as are having teary moments and moments where you feel like giving up and going back to bed and that these feelings will (hopefully) get less and less as the days go on and hormones level out a bit.

You will get through this OP, but absolutely do not hesitate to get help from mw/gp if your feelings do get worse. Sending hugs x

Sorry to hear about your experience. I have suffered with depression and anxiety for many many years and only came off medication last year. When I found out I was pregnant I was emotionless, all I wanted to do was sleep so I did and had breakdowns every now and then. Now that I'm out of the first trimester and 21+1 weeks I feel so much better, I could still sleep for hours on end and I do! It's crazy how much being pregnant takes over your body and mind and I'm still coming to terms with it. Just want to let you know it can get better and if you do need to go back on meds there's nothing wrong with that. People take to being pregnant different and you shouldn't feel away for how you feel. I hope everything goes well for you. Sending my love xx

Sorry to hear that you're feeling this way. I have been on anti anxiety and depression medication since i was a teen and tried to take a break during my first pregnancy but it wasn't a great decision. I switched to The lowest dose of sertraline which is considered safer than other SSRIs and have continued to take it into my second pregnancy. Hopefully you will get some good advice about weighing up the risks of medication with the risks of your illness and feel empowered in whatever decision you make.

Sorry you are feeling like this =( The exhaustion is a part of normal pregnancy, and obviously some degree of up and down moods. But if you have been suffering with depression for a while, thats obviously not going to help your wellbeing whilst being pregnant as everything is intensified!
I have been on and off meds for around 12 years now, and restarted them back up a few months before I got pregnant (different ones to ones I was taking before and they calmed me down massively!)
This helped my mental state loads in the first few months of pregnancy although I did have the occasional crying breakdown and feeling useless etc. Started to feel quite low around 24 weeks, and saw my doctor and we came to the conclusion that my dose would be doubled. Since then, things have been alot easier and I have felt like I can cope alot more, less anxiety around the birth and just happier days enjoying the pregnancy ^^
I would definitely recommend taking medication back up, alot of anti-depressants and anti anxiety medication is safe to take during pregnancy and also, remember that you are the most important thing right now.
I know thats hard to remember when you have this tiny thing inside of you that you want to protect with everything you have, but happy mum is a happy baby =)
I had days where I would get so emotional, angry and cry and then feel awful that these emotions I was feeling cant be good for baby, and I felt so guilty. But yeh, since being on the higher dose I can cope with things alot more. Thats not to say you wont have ANY bad days on meds, because you will. But things will just be easier to cope with =)

The only downside with being on meds, is you will have to stay in a little longer at hospital so they can monitor baby, as baby could get a little addiction to the medication. But I have been told its not something to worry about, and especially if you plan to breastfeed then you can wean them off as you wean off breastfeeding =)
Oh I am on Mirtazapine 30mg for addition info =D

Sorry for the massive post! But I hope its been a little informative and hope everything goes well for you!
