Acrylics and lash lift in pregnancy

I'm looking into booking myself in for a lash list and to get my nails done for a pamper treat, I'm 32 weeks. I just wondered if anybody knew if both were ok during pregnancy?

I’m pretty sure the lash lift is not ok. Think the nails are fine though.

GaaaaarlicBread · 10/02/2020 18:25

Yes they’re safe , my friend went for a pamper session and got her brows , lashes , nails etc done when she was 34 weeks . Enjoy x

Oh lash lift , sorry I read it as lash tint . No I am not sure about a lift but nails etc are fine

cannotmakemymindup · 10/02/2020 18:28

I was going to say that I think nails are not okay.

Sorry it also mentions about acyclic nails.

puds11 · 10/02/2020 18:30

If you give them a ring they will be able to tell you. It may be more to do with the way your body reacts to things can change whilst your pregnant so there’d be more risk of adverse skin reaction.

Catlover10 · 10/02/2020 18:36

I haven’t risked anything like that while I’ve been pregnant- I’m just using stick on lashes when I need them, and stick on nails, from boots/savers etc.

happymummy12345 · 10/02/2020 18:42

I always have acrylics on and continued to when I was pregnant. Can't comment on a lash lift

SparkleUK · 10/02/2020 18:45

I saw someone trained in beauty saying they wouldn't be insured to do a lash lift on someone pregnant but not 100%.

My NHS trust website also says not to have acrylics applied as it can interfere or cause problems with monitoring you if needs be

TwinkleStars15 · 10/02/2020 18:49

I can’t see why nails would be a problem, I’ve always gotten mine done throughout pregnancy. And I wouldn’t rely on BabyCentre for reliable information, I detest their website as it’s full of nonsense; a lack of evidence based information.

2dogsand1baby · 10/02/2020 18:57

If you need to go into surgery during labour for any reason, acrylics make monitoring very difficult (O2 sats etc) but at 32 weeks I'm sure it'll be fine. Just best to have them off by 36 weeks just in case 🙂

Some lash lifts are ok, but different salons use different chemicals.

roarfeckingroar · 10/02/2020 19:01

People with acrylics - don't you find they ruin your nails because of the filing them down towards the nail bed? I love the look of them but found my nails to be awful afterwards when j last had them for a while.

Dullblue · 10/02/2020 19:07

My therapist re patched tested me, for LVL and HD Brows when I got pregnant.
All fine 👌🏼

GetOffTheTableMabel · 10/02/2020 19:07

Acrylics do damage your nails but, if you never talk them off then it doesn’t matter! They don’t get progressively more damaged over time (as long as they are correctly applied). I have had acrylics on since 1994, throughout 2 pregnancies and I have no trouble with them.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 10/02/2020 19:09

Shouldn’t say I spent 3 weeks in hospital - placenta praevia + c section with dd2 and kept my nails on throughout. No one minded at they didn’t seem to cause any issues.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 10/02/2020 19:10

Should say

Theseptemberissues · 10/02/2020 19:12

I had lvls done a few times during pregnancy without issues Smile

Sweetpea1989 · 10/02/2020 20:28

I’ve just had LVL and HD at 22 weeks just had a thorough patch test 1st and plan on getting them before baby arrives to help me less look like death warmed up!

Shookethtothecore · 10/02/2020 20:30

No one would do a lash lift on me in pregnancy (I normally have them) but acrylics are fine. I asked one beautician she said it was because you are more likely to react in pregnancy and that it would void her insurance if she did it on me

lovelyjubbly12 · 10/02/2020 20:42

The beautician I go to said she wouldn't do a lash lift on me because she said due to pregnancy hormones the lashes just don't curl very much and she doesn't want to waste my money.

shellby28 · 10/02/2020 21:30

I too was told no lash lift, but ok to have hybrid lashes, although they do fall out quicker. Just need something to make me look a little more alive with minimum effort!

Of course acrylics cause damage to natural nails. But it doesn't bother me as I have mine on all the time.

With acrylics especially it's important to go to a qualified professional who uses high quality products and works in a clean environment. And to look after them and not pick them off. It's not south acrylics are damaging, it's badly applied and badly looked after acrylics that are damaging.

The lady I go to is amazing at what she does in my opinion. She always says how well I take care of my nails and how clear both my natural nail underneath and the acrylic are. And my natural nails grow well under my tips. I've added a picture, this set of tips were put in mid November when my natural nails were completely short. This is how they are 3 months later (I'm due a soak off and complete new set now, but wanted to show that they do grow underneath in-spite of what some people think that your nails don't grow if you have acrylics on). And yes I always have them this long, this is standard length for me. If I didn't have a 4 year old I'd have them even longer if I could.
