i am looking for some succesful vbac stories
i had a baby by emergency c section last year, i am due my 3rd baby next month and the scar is still pretty fresh. It will be around 14 months between having my c section and having this baby so as its getting closer im getting very anxious.

i have opted to have a vbac, i had my first child naturally before the c section.
Im really really worried about having a scar rupture and really do not want to have another c section.

just wanting to hear of other peoples experiences

Hi, congratulations! I had a home birth with Dd1, emcs with dd2 as the daft girl was an undiagnosed breech, and a successful vbac at home with ds1. It was 6 years between dd2 and ds though and I can't remember the risk to the scar at what time. Have you spoken to your midwife? The fact you've delivered vaginally before the section shows your body knows what to do and is capable of labour and delivery. That's a huge positive. Ds is 5 now and it was a lovely stress free birth apart from having to wait hours for the gas and air! Labour was 7.5 hours. Good luckSmile

Thankyou :) I have spoken to my midwife and my consultant, they have both said there is a risk for scar rupture but they havent said anything about me being more at risk because of the timing. It is so nice to hear succesful stories i have been very very anxious.
They dont really seem to worried about me going for a vbac either which is pretty reassuring. Im just an over thinker ive been driving my self crazy, ive read so many terrible stories online also which i dont think helped. Thanks again :)

I had to fight for mine because I wanted a home birth but if you'll be in hospital anyway then if you do need a section you're right there.

I had a successful VBAC with my second but there was an almost 3 year gap between my DC, which lowers the risk of scar rupture considerably.
I was monitored continuously in hospital, which restricted my movements to a degree, but I had a fantastic, quick birth with only gas and air. Much preferred the VBAC to C section but I kept an open mind and would have been willing to have a C section at the first sign of trouble.
The other thing I did to reduce my risk of scar rupture was to refuse an induction - my waters had broken anyway so wanted to give my body a chance to labour naturally. I'm not even entirely sure why they tried to push an induction as this is really not good practice for a VBAC.

My advice would be to do your research and think carefully about the pros and cons. In your case, the short interval between the two births increases your chance of scar rupture and this is something to bear in mind. I would like at the guidelines not just in this country but in other countries too, to decide whether you think a VBAC is best for you.

I have looked into it all a few times but i think im going to have another chat with my consultant at my next appointment just to make sure i have all the information i need.

i am currently going for a vbac but i am aware that i may end up having to have a c section which i dont mind as long as my baby is ok. My midwife spoke about inducing me at my last appointment, she said if needed they would induce me but i do not want to be induced at all because from some of the things i have read it brings more risks of a scar rupture.
So if i dont go into labour naturally i will go with a c section

Success here, 2 year gap

R2D2abc · 11/02/2020 08:21

I had a vaginal birth first baby.
Second baby was emergency section.

Third was VBAC. Was induced at 36+4 due to IUGR and successful delivered vaginaly. My gap between the section and VBAC was 21 months on the spot. Was continuously monitored since in active labour, had cannula in place. Had epidural anyways as pain relief, which was also good in case I needed an emergency c-section again.

I knew I had the chance of having a section but wanted to try vaginaly as I'm terrified of operations on myself. Plus it's good in terms of planning other pregnancies.

I plan my second VBAC with this pregnancy. I'm 29 weeks.

I went to the VBAC clinic at UCLH last week and the consultant was very reassuring to a woman in the room who wanted a VBAC with (I think) just a year’s clearance from her previous C-section. He said that since the monitoring is very carefully carried out they are not concerned with a theoretical slightly increased risk.

He also said that in the last 4 years at UCLH they had seen only 2 scar ruptures, and these were VBACs where they had advised a C-section. In both cases mother and baby were fine after EMCS.

@R2D2abc congratulations!! :) it is reassuring to hear someone else has done with a small gap, I've been so anxious about it. I really don't want to have another c section because I'd like more children naturally but I do have an understanding that I may end up having to have one. It is just nice to hear other people's success stories :) thankyou

@fretnot it is reassuring to hear about other people going for it. My consultant does really seem concerned about it she just made me aware that there will be a risk of scar rupture but i will be monitored closely so if anything does happen I will be in the right place.

At first I was swaying towards having another c section because of the risks but after speaking to my Consultant a few times and doing research I decided I want to try for a vbac, my consultant was also pushing more for a vbac so I guess that's a good thing aswel :)
