Holiday abroad with a baby?

We're expecting our first baby and we're just chatting about perhaps going to Cyprus in September with my parents, it's only a thought at the moment, my parents have an apartment there so we could book last minute, our baby would be roughly 12 weeks old by then, would you consider it or has anyone done it?

Also, we've ordered an ickle bubba stomp 4, would you just take the frame and the car seat attachment? Would these both go in the hold on the plane? We'd hire a car do we'd deffo need the car seat but we're a bit clueless about the logistics of it all! Any advice appreciated 👍👶🤰🏼

I don't know about the logistics in your case, as we took a travel pushchair and used public transport. But we took our little one away to Amsterdam at 3 months old. It was great, be prepared to take things a lot slower, but it's certainly achievable 😊

I took my little boy when he was about 15months to Turkey and it was fine and we are planning on going again this year to Mexico when baby will only be 10 weeks old its doable and alot easier than toddler age xx

My SIL took her 10 week old on a plane journey from New Zealand to the UK - so it's definitely achievable. She found it a lot more challenging travelling that distance with toddlers mind you!

We went to Italy with family for two weeks when my baby was 10-12 weeks. It was absolutely fine! Definitely doable. We took her bedside crib, car seat and a lightweight pushchair.

Airlines are usually really good at accomodating for people with babies and toddlers. When my DD was two we went abroad and flew with easy jet. We were able to take her car seat, her buggy (fairly bulky lie flat one) changing bag, plus another piece of hand luggage. We popped things like nappies in the bottom of the buggy so that they took up less room in the suitcase. They also gave us priority boarding and the option to take the buggy to the gate or check it in with our luggage. I am pretty sure we were giving a slightly better weight allowance for our suitcase too

Most airlines are fine flying with so take whatever you need.

We live abroad, baby due shortly and will be born in our 'new' country'. We plan on coming back to the Uk when baby is around 10-12 weeks to visit family.

Im thinking we will probably ditch bring pram at all at that age, just sling. Will buy a basic car seat for travel (as the main one is a large stay in car type), and will get a small pop up travel cot type thing when they are small. All will make it easier travelling as we will be in 3-4 locations, and travelling via a mixture of public transport and hire car.

These are all promising replies, thanks so much ladies! I was curious about all the stuff we'd need, especially the cot etc, I don't get how we'd get a next to me crib in the hold, along with the pram base etc, it all sounds complicated!

We went away with DD to Greece when she was 10 weeks old, lovely holiday she was so easy to look after.

She slept in a Travel cot they provided - this solves your next to me crib issues. And we took a buggy with a newborn insert in.

Would put my expensive pram into the hold, (you can do along with car seats etc) if you want. We took our prep machine with us.

She slept the best she ever has done for the week we were away, so so so much easier than taking toddlers away.

She napped in her buggy a lot, we had a summer buggy cover to shelter her from the sun.

We went all inclusive and was super easy. I’d highly recommend it

Wouldn’t put my expensive pram into the hold it should read

I'll be taking my 4. Onth old to Cyprus for Easter. We have family there so is easier but the Cypriots love children so I'm sure you will be well looked after in restaurants etc. Lots of people have told me that it's easier to go on holiday before babies are mobile so I guess we have to make the most of this time.

PekLafe · 11/02/2020 13:45

I'd get a cheap folding stroller to take on the plane and use a travel cot at your holiday destination.

Caspianberg · 11/02/2020 14:01

@rainbow1982 - I'm thinking we will probably grab something compact like this for sleeping. Folds tiny so would go in case, and can use at beach as well as overnight if your looking at a beach type holiday.

Our pram is a carrycot type and i think too much hassle to take as could break and fodls in two parts

rainbow1982 · 11/02/2020 14:36

Caspianberg wow this is cool thanks so much! Adding it to my list right now!
