Cereal with highest folic acid?

Anyone know which cereal has highest folic acid content? Or other foods to recommend in order to get 4-600 mcg daily naturally? (tablets make me sick).

All bran / high fibre bran?
Marmite?

toomuchteaandcake · 09/02/2020 22:22

All bran was the highest I found, though also had quite a lot more sugar than bran flakes so I've stuck to them mostly

BadCatDirtyCat · 09/02/2020 22:27

Marmite is a good shout.

Have you tried the pregnacare gummies?

Elly88 · 10/02/2020 07:05

Thank you, yes marmite is a good one. No, I haven't tried the gummies, any tablet with folic acid or iron makes me really sick, it did with my first pregnancy too. 7 weeks now and taken it every day until now and for 2 months trying. Only lasted until 6 weeks with first so hopefully I'll be able to get enough through food for the next 5 weeks

Isn't it simply pregnancy sickness making you sick? You can get folic acid tablets in Boots that are just plain not combined with other nutrients.

BinkyandBunty · 10/02/2020 07:13

It's likely to be the iron in the tablets making you sick, I second finding one that doesn't contain it. Also take it last thing before bed, with a good amount of food.

Onedaylikethi5 · 10/02/2020 07:18

You are unlikely to get enough folic acid through diet alone, see the folic for life campaign. I'd try and find a different tablet

Elly88 · 10/02/2020 07:36

So I already have folic acid only and took it last thing at night. Haven't taken any iron this time for that reason. Its not my first pregnancy, I know the drill. And how much better I feel not taking it compared to taking it. Do a quick Google, I'm not alone when I find it makes me really sick. Not looking for judgement about not taking it, it's actually quite easy to make sure you get enough through food, was just looking for other food recommendations that's all.

Nobodies judging you for not taking it?

Doesnt bread have folic acid in it these days?

NemophilistRebel · 10/02/2020 07:42

Green veg and salad leaves are high in folic Acid

I ate loads of rocket and broccoli

Urkiddingright · 10/02/2020 11:15

Bread contains folic acid in some countries like the US but we haven’t followed suit as yet. Most cereals contain it and green vegetables such as broccoli and spinach. I’d personally just deal with the nausea though because not taking it isn’t worth the risk...

flissity · 10/02/2020 11:37

How many weeks are you? I did find that it was probably other things (iron) that made me feel sick. Not just folic acid. So I took that separately and Vitamin D separately.

LuckyWright · 10/02/2020 12:57

I agree that it would be very difficult to get the recommended dose through diet alone. I can't swallow tablets so I've been taking the pregnacare liquid for about 3 months now (I'm 8 weeks but started it when we were trying to conceive). The liquid has to be taken morning and night and yes it does make me feel a little sick but worth it! Perhaps worth a try for you? I ordered from amazon x
