Low lying placenta issue...

Hi all,

When we had our 20 week scan we were informed that the placenta was low lying and I believe covering my cervix towards the back.

I have another scan at 32 weeks to check if it has moved. If it hasn’t I’m likely to need a csection...:(

Has anyone else been through this? Did it move? Did you have to have csection?

TIA xx

Hi OP. I had this in my first pregnancy. It had moved by the check up scan

They often move. Also a section isnt the end of the world to keep ypu baby safe

Ah thank you ladies. The only reason I don’t want a csection is because I’ve never ever had an operation before and I’m scared...obviously if I must have one then I will do it x

Yes and mine had moved by 27 weeks. 9 out of 10 times it does move as your uterus expands.

I'm un the same position as you! My placenta was found to be low at my 20 week scan so have to go back at 32 weeks to have another scan. Midwife said in 9 out of 10 cases the placenta moves up so fingers crossed we will be fine x

Thank you everyone for replying! I’m glad I’m not alone!

Knowing my luck I will be the 1 out of 10...but whatever it takes to get my little girl here xx

Same position as you! Now 23 weeks and feel more chilled about it all. I've got a thread about it actually if you want to have a look on there I got loads of helpful advice

I had this with my second pregnancy - it had moved up by the 32 week scan.

XenaAura · 10/02/2020 21:18

Yes, mine was covering my cervix even at 28 weeks, so was so worried as I really do not want a c-section. At my 30 week scan it had moved up a few cm, and then at my last scan at 35 weeks it was really high. Some just take a while to move. The sonographers seem not worried at all by low lying placenta and we are there like freaking out! Haha, but, yeh, try not to worry too much at the moment, i'm sure it will move up =)

doadeer · 10/02/2020 21:19

I think most people's move, mine did and others I know. Think it's very common

Amithecrazyone29 · 12/02/2020 17:01

I’m afraid mine didn’t and I ended up having my baby at almost 18 weeks. I was however bleeding from around 15 weeks due to the low lying placenta and that may have irritated my cervix.

Are you bleeding? If you’ve made it to 20 weeks that sounds positive, please just take it easy.

BooMamaBear · 12/02/2020 18:20

My SIL did and it didn't move she had a c-section but because they knew they were having a section it was elective so a week before her due date they took her in in the morning and had their baby 10 mins later. No contractions or anything she said it was really chilled and she healed really well! She's had a v-bac since and that went ok too!!

Pinksun12 · 12/02/2020 18:24

Mine didn't and I started having bleeds from 32 weeks and had to remain in hospital until delivery. We made it until 37 weeks.

I'm in the same position as you. Our sonographer didn't tell us though. We got a letter on Saturday with a consultant appointment so i had to spend all weekend worrying until I could phone on Monday. It was quite a shock after being told all was okay after the scan, but baby is okay so that's the main thing. Im terrified about the thought of a csection. Our consultant appointment is next Tuesday so hopefully we'll find out more then. We dont have a scan booked in until 36 weeks.
For anyone else who has been in the same situation, did you have scans between the 20 week and the 32 or 36 week scan or was it just a waiting game and normal midwife appointments until then?
