Low fluid and slowed growth

Hi ladies!

I had a scan on Thursday, I was 36+2 and the sonographer picked up that the largest pool of fluid she could find was 2.8cm, consultant assured me it was low but within normal range. But, the baby measurements had also showed that growth has slowed and baby has dropped percentiles.
Consultant has stressed to keep an eye on movements and to not hesitate if any changes happen.
Scan booked for 2 weeks time to check everything again.

Has anyone else had this and if so, what happened? Were you induced to be on the safe side? What if baby levels keep dropping, will they keep me in after scan to induce me?

Thanks for taking time to read, it's really appreciated! Smile xx

Hello, I had a planned induction at 38 weeks due to small baby and percentile drops, she was 10th centile, then static growth and then at my last scan at 36 weeks then decided due to her dropping to 2nd centile that they’d book me for an induction at 38weeks.
I had a Doppler scan at 37+1 all was good flow wise, had a sweep in preparation for induction and went into labour the same night and she arrived the next day

My fluid was also on the lower side but my bump was small, she was all baby....

Sushirolls · 08/02/2020 19:59

DD had a growth scan yesterday and has the same issues as you, so they have booked her for induction for next Saturday - which is her due date.

She's also been told to keep an eye on movements and any niggles or concerns, to go straight in x

DD was my 2nd and DS was small also so that was also a factor in mine

I had a scan for reduced movements at 41 weeks, which showed low fluid. They induced me the same day but I think as I was overdue and it was the second time I'd been in with reduced movements, they just decided they may as well get him out. My son was fine, no issues, he could have had low fluid for ages, I hadn't had a scan since 20 weeks.

Thanks for replying :)

This baby has been steadily on the 50th centile and has just started dropping down, I've been having scans every 4 weeks, reasons unknown to every midwife and consultant I speak to, but kinda glad now this has popped up. Hoping for VBAC due to previous breech c section. Reason I bring this up is just for the things they won't do to induce this labour. I had Oligohydramnios with first baby, don't know if it's connected.

When finding out about low fluid/growth slowing down did you take any other special measures with the midwife you see regularly or just take it easy?
Last stretch of pregnancy plays havoc with anxiety and brings plenty questions lol Blushxx

For DD, she has been having these growth scans as DGS1 was a SGA baby but that wasn't known until he was born. DGS2 has been progressing well so far, until yesterday. They haven't mentioned any extra monitoring as they've booked for her to go in on Saturday for the induction. She did already have mw appt booked for Friday, so she will keep that.

It's so hard not to worry, isn't it Flowers

@SarahInit i was already “taking it easy” so to speak as I was high risk of preterm labour throughout my pregnancy due to cervix issues (was on progesterone pessaries from 18 weeks to 36 weeks).

I was still working (until the day dd came it turned out) so the consultant basically said work less hours in the day and work from home as well, so I was given a sick note saying I was fit for work but only if I could work less hours in the day.

My first also was small gestational age and because of the cervix issues i had the consultant every 2 weeks from 18 weeks.

One thing I said was couldn’t fault the nhs in pregnancy as I felt incredibly well looked after.

I’d take it easy, get prepared for a potential induction after your next scan..... also id just remember what they say, any change in movements etc go in... also be prepared to be induced if you do!

Thank you, @Namechangerejsjs1239 Biscuit

Good luck to you too, @SarahInit Flowers x

@SarahInit what percentage is your baby at now? I've had the same concern, baby was 67% at 28 week scan and then a growth scan at 34 weeks due to reduced movement weeks showed he had dropped to 34%. Sonographer wasn't concerned though and I have another scan booked in for 36 weeks. It seems like a big drop to me though and I'm concerned, so anxiously waiting for my 36 week scan next week. What percentage is your baby at now? Also wondering if they will induce early, so watching your threat with interest. Sorry you are going through this too! X

SarahInit · 09/02/2020 20:29

@sadtoday21

Hi, it's stressful to think of all the things that could be the cause, sorry to hear you're going through it too :(

I don't have the exact percentiles unfortunately, but this baby has been steady on the 50th at every scan, every 4 weeks since 20 week scan. From what I can remember being showed at last scan it was bang in between the 10th and 50th.

I will repost here when I go for my next scan to keep you posted if you like, my thoughts are that since I'll be 38+ they'll likely induce as had previous low waters with first pregnancy.
Appointment with midwife this coming tues so will have more of an idea what's what cause head was too buzzing after appointment post scan with consultant.

Xx

Thanks @SarahInit and I’m really sorry you are having the same worries! It’s so difficult sometimes. Please do let me know how it goes this week and I hope the growth scan goes well! Mine is on Thursday - will be 36 weeks. Really scared he might have dropped further :/

SarahInit · 11/02/2020 12:50

Update:

Midwife appointment, she heard a deceleration when she listened in with Doppler so put me on the machine to be monitored. It showed a couple more decelerations but it coincided with movements so guesses were that baby was laying on the cord. My main concern being, with low waters the cord could be getting constricted more. She sent it over to the hospital to get a dr to have a look and they were relatively happy with it. But, have booked me in for a scan this Thursday to check on waters and growth. Have been told again to not hesitate if baby movements decrease or increase in the next 2 days xx

I’ve had 3 like this. 1st was induced the EMCS at 39+1 having been monitored from
23 weeks. Born 2nd percentile. 2nd and 3rd I had aspirin from BFP and about a million extra scans, 2 week in the final weeks before delivery. 2nd CS at 35+5, 50th percentile for gestation. 3rd CS at 37+5 2nd percentile. No real reason given but some issues with blood flow to / from placenta. The 2nd one probably could have stayed put a while longer but I had massive anxiety over various things, and a friend had had a still born baby at term while I was pregnant. They’re 9,7 and 4 now an absolutely fine. Middle one had some issues relating to prematurity (respiratory distress at birth and no suck reflex which is usual at his gestation).

takeyourrubbishhome · 11/02/2020 13:06

I don’t like this @SarahInit - I think at your next scan you need to ask them their plan for delivery. I don’t like the slowing growth and the decels. I think you need to consider asking for an ELCS soon (I applaud your desire to VBAC but I don’t think I’d want to risk it). And please do be twitchy about movement. Good luck!
