Hey everyone I have an induction booked in five days . I'm so scared as I don't know what to expect . However I'm really struggling now and I'm scared they may cancel it I'll be 39 weeks when I have it done. Can people tell me their experiences so I know more of what to expect

Haven’t you been given any information from your midwife or hospital? Why are you being induced?
There is basic info here www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/induction-labour/
Are there particular issues bothering you?

My daughter went in hospital this morning for an induction. She had ivf and drs thought baby not growing enough, not much fluid round baby and ? placenta not working as it should. Will let you know what happens.

My DD is booked for induction for next Saturday, as DGS2 has started to drop on his growth chart 😢 There is concern about flow through his cord. I think there was also less water.

DGS1 was a spontaneous labour, so this will be her first. He was a SGA baby, which is why she was having growth scans this time.

Her consultant said they would try a pessary and if that didn't work, they have a gel. I think if you're dilated enough, they will just break the waters.

Good luck Flowers

@stella78103 good luck to your daughter, also Flowers

Hey try not to worry i got induced now have a lovely 14wk old.
I got my waters broken & drip to make me go into labour my baby was born in 1 hour.
I had gas & air but they took it away from me when i was pushing my baby out so was sore so my tip is take anything they offer u just incase u have to give birth without anything near the end.
All the best , it wont be as bad as u think x

3 inductions for me and all have been really happy positive experiences.

I was induced due to waters breaking early and having GD. Most of my friends already have children and three of them had inductions, so I spoke to them and felt prepared. It might help to do some reading.

I refused the drip until I was given an epidural, which the trust I gave birth in advise anyway. The whole experience was lovely after that, I highly recommend it!

I had an induction at 37 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. I was already an inpatient, so had a cannula put in the night before. I don't know when one is put in if you're coming in from home.

Day 1. I had 2 sets of the gel pessaries (6 hours apart) to try to kick start labour. One hour of baby CTG was needed prior to each gel. Other than having to return to the ward for hourly monitoring, I was free to do what I liked. You're encouraged to move, so I went for a walk around a nearby field. Triggered a few mild contractions, but nothing major, and certainly not labour. I was re-admitted to the antenatal ward at 9pm to get some sleep.

Day 2. I was bought down to the delivery suite at 1am. 3am I had my waters broken. Since that also didn't trigger labour, at 5am, I had the drip attached, which definitely did. Managed the pain on gas and air until 3cm, so had some morphine. Five wonderful hours later, where I'd slept soundly between contractions, I was 10cm and ready to push. 20 minutes later I was holding my beautiful baby girl. No interventions, and a small second degree tear.

I can't really comment on how likely your induction is to be delayed. It's dependant on how busy the delivery suite is, how many others need inductions that day and how medically necessary it is.

I hope all goes well for you. Try not to worry. Read up on induction, so you know what to expect.

I am 39 weeks today and had a stretch and sweep yesterday morning with the consultant. DD is 15/02 but I have induction booked for Monday 17/02 and I’m really hoping to go into labor naturally. I doubt this little one will allow that though.

They mentioned bishop scores and apparently this translate into how “favourable you are” or the likelihood of how long labor will last/end in C section. Scored a 6 but I don’t know if that’s good or bad as Google’s not been clear.

From reading PBC book they did say induction can make labor seem longer or contractions stronger but I suppose everyone’s body will be different. If you’d rather try a little longer to go natural you can always ask your midwife or doctor to let you try for a couple days providing it’s to no risk of the baba.

Try and be calm and just focus on the fact that on that date or there abouts you’ll be holding your baby.

I had growth scans fortnightly and she was consistently below the tenth centile so I was induced at 37+4.
I was 1cm with a difficult posterior cervix when they put the first pessary in. 6 hours later and no developments I had another pessary inserted. Used this time to bounce loads on the ball and walk laps of the hospital grounds. Felt very slight cramps at this stage not painful.
After 6 hours they were able to break my waters, I was 3cm at this point.
All hell broke loose and baby was born 2.5 hours later. As soon as I stood up after my waters broke the pains were incredible she must have just needed that to happen to come down. No time for anything except gas and air.
All in all a quick positive induction. I needed an episiotomy and she was 5lb 3oz but I've healed amazingly

These all sound pretty positive. I will convey this to Katy tomorrow. Thanks.

Twolittlebears · 08/02/2020 23:05

I was induced. Pessary Friday morning. Contractions by mid afternoon. Pessary fell out 🙄 new pessary put in Sat morning. Contractions started at 4pm. Picked up by 6pm. DS born at 6.30pm.

I was given the option of induction because of reduced fetal movement. Cord problems confirmed post-birth. I suspect he wouldn't have made it if he'd stayed in and am so SO grateful I was induced every day. Good luck OP!

Hi everyone. Katy had to have a drip as she wasn't dilated enough. That did the trick! She only had gas and air but had to have a lot of stitches and lost quite a bit of blood and entenox made her sick, poor love. Baby boy born Sunday 9 Feb. 5lbs 14oz. He's beautiful.
