I had a private 8 week scan and the lady told me that my placenta was at the front (anterior) and pointed out my cervix too but didn’t say how close they were. After a little research I’ve got myself concerned about how low it could be as I really would like a home birth. I had planned to ask at my next scan but she was in such a rush (she should have cancelled my appointment as she double booked a clinic, but didn’t want to let me down, which was lovely) so I didn’t want to trouble her. I wondered if any experts were on here and could see from my scan? No worries if not, I’ll just have to wait until my next scan in a few weeks.

Ok i am not a sonographer but i did have a scan on Wednesday and she looked at the placenta and cervix, pointed them both out. She said my placenta was Anterior and not covering the cervix. I have drawn around what i believe is your placenta in red and you cervix i believe is just above the green line. I believe that your placenta is not covering your cervix. My songrapher said that the placenta won't move and cover the cervix now but it may stretch away, however i am 24 weeks now so i am not sure that would be the same for you.

Fx it will be ok, and an actual songrapher can help in a min x

The position of the placenta at 8 weeks is nothing to worry about! It’s far too early to tell if it’s going to be low lying, that’s why on the NHS they don’t assess it until 20 weeks.

Even if you have a low lying placenta on your 20 week scan, there’s a 95% chance it will have moved away by the time you get to term.

I think private scans try to justify the money they charge by being overly detailed when there’s no actual clinical usefulness, tbh.
