Seeing stars at 30 weeks

Hi guys, not going to stress myself out here but I've noticed twice that if I bend over or get up quick I'll see stars or 'flashing lights' in my vision that last about 5 seconds.. I was at the hospital 2 days ago for an MLU checkup and my BP was completely normal so I know it's not high blood pressure.. Anyone else had this? I pray it's not pre-eclampsia even though I'm sure you have to be constantly seeing stars and have swelling which I don't..

I had this in my second pregnancy (flashing lights and not being able to see properly, like my vision was darkened) and I think it was low blood sugar. I tried to eat something every 2 hours and that helped a lot.

Still worth ringing your midwife for a chat just in case.

I also get this when I'm not pregnant and I think it's a migraine with aura (but without the pain). Normally goes away on its own if I lie down and have something to eat.

When I had it, it was a sign of pre-eclampsia and I was induced early as a result. Please contact your midwife asap.

Im 18+4 I've been getting this and going dizzy if I bend down or get up too quickly. I was at the GP yesterday for a check up on a separate matter to pregnancy and they checked BP. Said it's fine but slightly on y low side for me. I mentioned feeling dizzy and they said because my BP is borderline this is what's causing it. The movements to look down and get up further drop your BP, which if it's like mine could explain it x

@Jaydemeehan33 I have been experiencing this on occasion as well since 32 weeks (now 34). No solution yet. I am being treated for high BP and closely monitored incase it turns into PE.

Might be worth getting your eyes checked over for peace of mind if you are short sighted. Flashes can also be a sign of retinal detachment. But the optician said my eyes were fine.

Jaydemeehan33 · 07/02/2020 15:52

No I never have problems with short sighted or anything, I'll ring when I'm home I'm abit worried hopefully all will be OK x

The high BP can come on very suddenly and the flashing lights don't need to be constant. I had pre-eclampsia and just thought it was migraines. Get checked.

I was in hospital with severe pre-eclampsia for six weeks (induced at 34 weeks) and the flahing lights weren't constant. Get your BP checked pronto Flowers

PixieDustt · 07/02/2020 16:11

Your BP can change over 2 days.
Definitely call them and go get checked out.
All the best OP Thanks

I've had it occasionally, usually getting up or sitting down quick, but blood pressure and urine fine so hasn't been pre eclampsia. However as it can be a symptom of pre-eclampsia it is definitely worth getting checked out.

My iron levels are low (I rang up my midwife) she said it hasn't changed in the last two weeks and she said it's down to that, I've to take 2 iron tablets a day and rest up, thanks tho guys 💙
