Hi ladies,
I am week 5, been feeling extremely tired and some other mild pregnancy symptoms, but one thing is catching me off guard.... Sudden insomnia! I am used to undisturbed long sleep and at times when I need it the most and feeling so tired- I can sleep at all! Is anyone else suffering from it here? Do you have any tips?

I'm in exactly the same boat although mine has come and gone. Apparently all very normal! I can be struggling to stay awake at work during the day but as soon as I climb in to bed, I get a new lease of life and can't for the life of me drop off!

LexiM · 08/02/2020 23:15

I’m 5 weeks and I get to sleep ok, a bit slower than normal but not too bad but I can’t stay asleep and feel like I’m awake most of the night. Hoping it’s just a phase! 😂

Charlolo · 09/02/2020 05:19

I'm in exactly the same boat. I woke up at 1.30 this morning and haven't gone back to sleep. I'm so tired all the time

IvinghoeBeacon · 09/02/2020 05:24

I’m afraid this is a feature of my pregnancies from early on and I don’t find that it improves. It is very hard because even if other symptoms are mild it can make them harder to cope with. I manage it by decamping to the spare room so I’m not worrying about disturbing my husband (I know not everyone has the space though), avoid looking at screens as much as possible, and I just go with it and listen to audiobooks/hypnobirthing tracks / podcasts until I drift off again eventually. It’s frustrating but I try very hard not to get frustrated! It’s much harder second time round as so much less opportunity to rest or nap when there is a toddler around

I suffered in the first trimester and now at 34 weeks it's worse than ever.... I've been awake since 4 and cannot get back to sleep...

starlightmagic · 09/02/2020 06:21

Nearly 32 weeks here and 2/3am is a normal wake up time, after waking every hour or two all night 😭

FlapJackered · 09/02/2020 06:28

Ditto! I am 5 weeks too and 2am is my morning at the moment. 🙈 it's a killer.
The last few nights I have managed to get back to sleep eventually with deep breathing techniques and a white noise app! Not easy though.

NChangeForNoReason · 09/02/2020 06:43

Sorry to tell u this but it does not end - even after ur pregnancy, your baby doesn't sleep, so prepare yourself ... this is now your new life!!

I found meditation apps, hot baths, warm drinks "helped" to an extent however in reality daytime naps and early bedtimes were the only thing that helped me through the day.

Hope it gets better for u!!

eurochick · 09/02/2020 07:02

I had insomnia from conception to delivery. And then a non-sleeping newborn. She's five now and I still don't feel like I have recovered. It's rubbish. Just sleep as much as you can. I dud what another poster did and decamped to the spare room as my husband snoring away happily just made me feel murderous!

bluemoon2468 · 09/02/2020 07:48

I've been waking up every day around 4am completely unable to go back to sleep since getting my BFP 3 weeks ago. The only way I have been able to handle it is going to bed really early at the other end. If I fall asleep by 9pm then I get 7 hours of sleep and going to work is tolerable. It's a bit depressing and I feel like a child but just trying to remind myself that it's temporary.

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/02/2020 08:01

I’ve been getting around 3 hours and I’m now 11 +2 and I’m SO TIRED ! I have an awful cough which is waking me up when I finally do sleep! I’m so done ! 😩

Amichelle84 · 09/02/2020 09:04

I've had the same and I'm now 12w. I know your body prepares you for sleepless nights once the baby arrives but I didnt expect it to start so early. I usually end up on the sofa by 3am and doze off at some point.

Bezalelle · 09/02/2020 09:16

I'm 11 weeks, and tend to wake up at least twice in the night for a wee. It's the luck of the draw whether I get back to sleep again. Hunger also wakes me. This morning at 3:30am I got up to make toast, and stayed up reading for a couple of hours. I also take long naps in the afternoon whenever I can Blush

IvinghoeBeacon · 09/02/2020 09:22

I don’t actually think it prepares you for sleepless nights with a baby tbh. Because it’s a hugely different thing being kept awake by someone else and being kept awake by your body. All I can say to first timers is do not ever apologise for napping or resting whenever you can - if you decide to have another it becomes very very difficult to catch up

Abkbjbjb · 09/02/2020 09:29

Ihadinsomnia from the minute I found out I was pregnant until the day I gave birth with both pregnancies. No joke the first night we brought baby home I slept like a log in between feeds, I would feed, fall back to sleep in an instant. Honestly those early days I had the best sleeps of my life albeit broken!! I feel your pain ladies it's a killer 😩

Chanel05 · 09/02/2020 09:36

I am awake at 2.30 every morning without fail and it takes me until about 4 to get back to sleep again.

IvinghoeBeacon · 09/02/2020 09:42

I’m also insomniac from conception to birth. My husband keeps suggesting a night away somewhere while toddler goes to grandparents and I’m refusing to go away because I need the bloody spare bed!

Jean2006 · 29/01/2021 12:50

Hey SunnyFlover I too am struggling alot with early insomnia. I just wondered how you got on?
