Hi love, you just diet controlled or are you on medication?

Afraid no direct experience but my best mate was type 1 and has done since she was 7. She injects and had gradually got really good control over her sugars. Last summer she had a healthy little boy following a very uneventful pregnancy and birth. So don't worry too much.
She went csection in the end but that's because they couldn't risk a long birth when she needs to eat and inject regularly.

Look into a low GI diet. Following that and counting her carbs changed everything for her.

You're local trust will have a whole team and a diabetic midwife, it might be worth getting their number from the internet and giving them a call. Maybe they will agree with your GP, but I think it is worth making them aware. I am consultant led as I am type 1 but you probably wont need any additional support.

As pp have said, try to keep it low carb diet. It might be useful to follow a similar diet to those ladies who have gestational diabetes. There is a great Facebook group for it I believe. Essentially it is all about have low sugar, slow releasing carbs and combining any carb you eat with fat. For instance, dont eat toast, eat cheese and toast and the carb is absorbed less quickly. Dont try to cut carbs totally as this can lead to ketones in your blood.

Diabetes diagnosis is shit no matter when you are diagnosed. If it happens during pregnancy then you have the added stress over worrying about the baby. It is ok to feel down after diagnosis, however if it persist then you can ask for further help and that is ok. You going into the second trimester so if you end up needing more medication or change into insulin for a while, know it is ok. Insulin resistance is normal part of pregnancy, don’t panic when/ if that happens (I’m type 1 so I’m not certain it does the same with type 2). There will be lots of appointments and people there to help.

Hope the appointment today goes well FlowersFlowers.
