Placenta problems

Hi, I've been told that there is an issue with blood flow getting to the placenta and that they're concerned this will effect babies growth, I've to keep a diary of babies movements as there is a chance of still birth etc.

I will have regular growth scans, really not sure I'm even taking this in so just wondered if anyone has been through similar?

Hi, I'm in the same position as you. At my 20w scan I was referred to consultant who has done a further two scans with more coming up 2 weekly. She found that the blood flow to placenta wasn't great and baby is measuring very small, so I'm on daily aspirin which seems to be common. How many weeks are you? I know a few people that went through something similar and their babies after birth were small and healthy or even average sized. They'll just keep an extra eye on you which is good.

@greenemerald

Thanks for your reply!

Mines was picked up at the 20 week scan (I was actually 22 weeks they do it slightly later in my hospital)also, I've just never heard of anyone who has had it before. Did you start getting scans every two weeks straight away? I've been told I will get one at 26 and then they will make a call from there. X

I got a rescan a few days later with the consultant, but that's probably only because I had a locum sonographer on the day who really struggled to get the measurements. Baby was being very wriggly! She didn't seem confident so wanted them confirming. I then saw her again two weeks later after that scan to check the growth incline.
It seems a little reassuring that they're happy to wait until your 26w perhaps? I was barely on the chart in terms of percentile hence why mine was maybe sooner than yours. Do you know what percentile they're predicting for baby at the moment?
I'd say not to worry at this stage (easier said than done!), but if you did feel any reduced movements or felt unwell in yourself to not hesitate to get it checked out.

I've just posted this on a similar thread:

I've had this throughout my twin pregnancy, from 22-32 weeks persistently. As above, it can signal growth problems so they will start keeping a close eye on you. Strangely ours never did develop into a growth problem and suddenly for the last 3 weeks the PI has actually been normal. Yours might even be a one off, especially if baby is very wriggly (and therefore harder to scan!)

The main thing is that the end diastolic flow (EDF) remains forward (often documented "present" or "positive" in your notes). was told that if it became "absent" then I would be admitted for very close monitoring and if it goes into "reverse" then baby may need to be delivered. Ours always remained positive which was good.

As above, do keep monitoring the movements - I've often been in for a reassuring CTG if in any doubt at all.

All the best :)
