Hi all,

My contract in my current job is ending end of March. My due date is on 22nd June. I will be off from work for 2 months.

I'm worried about finances if we can pay mortgage, for baby and other expenses. Since my contract is fixed term contract I won't be getting maternity pay as well.

Can anyone recommend something for me.

Thanks

Will you still.be there at 25 weeks pregnant? Will you have been there for 26 weeks by the time you are 25 weeks pregnant? If both are true then you should qualify for SMP. Alternatively you could claim Maternity Allowance

@dementedpixie Hi!!

I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant. I've been working there for a year. My contract ends 31st March I will be around 29 and 30 weeks pregnant.

Do I ask my employer?

I do t know the answer but I'd strongly advise doing your research before or at least alongside speaking to your employer - don't let them get out of paying you what you're due!

Maybe speak to Citizen's Advice Bureau?

You should definitely get SMP from the dates you have said. I left my job when I was 8 weeks pregnant as I was too unwell to work but had been there long enough I qualified for full maternity allowance which I have just started getting now. Hopefully your work will honour the SMP but if not make sure you have all your payslips before you leave and claim maternity allowance instead.
