Eating to stop feeling sick

Hi I'm 6/7 weeks and the nausea is kicking in. It seems to be as soon as I feel hungry. Currently sat eating weetabix at 10pm and wondering if anyone else has the same kind of nausea? How are you managing it - keeping snacks to hand? Worried I'll be the size of a house at this rate.

I was like that in all three pregnancies. Ate every 2 hours on the dot otherwise would get nauseous and dizzy. It didn't last much past 12 weeks when the morning sickness subsided.

Happymumma29 · 04/02/2020 22:32

@blindmansbluff that describes exactly how I'm feeling with the dizziness too. I'd also say every 2 hours as well. It's horrible but I hope it passes at 12 weeks too. Thank you.

I was like that too and I did gain a lot of weight - I think in early pregnancy it’s necessary, just go with what you feel, and later when you hopefully feel less sick, you can control it more if you are worried.

I found eating bananas really helped. They are a perfect snack that you can eat a few bites and feel a bit full and keep going back to it. I take one to bed every night and even wake up around 1-2am and eat. Quieter too than anything in a wrapper!!

KellyHall · 04/02/2020 22:37

I had the same! It lasted about 15 weeks for me. Just eat whatever you need to, and keep up whatever exercise you were doing before.

Once I got in to the third trimester, I had carpal tunnel syndrome, restless legs and arms, cramps in my legs, and probably more I've forgotten. Only exercise made it all bearable: morning aerobics; afternoon long walk; evening yoga. By the time I was full term, I'd already lost all of my baby weight, and some 😲

Happymumma29 · 04/02/2020 22:39

Thank you both. I will definitely get some bananas in. Easy peelers I could eat too. That's a good idea about a banana up to bed as I felt dreadful this morning when I woke up!

Totally the same, lasted until 16 weeks ish. Ate a lot of fruit and also found mints helped when desperate! Just some polos could help until I could eat. Lots of cereal bars too!

Happymumma29 · 04/02/2020 22:41

Oh wow that sounds rough! I do need to exercise more. I'm going to swim a couple of times a week and walk in the evenings. So glad to hear other stories about the sickness and eating.

Thank you @Beck2277, I'll add mints and cereal bars to the shop!

Yep I had this up to about 13 weeks - just constantly eating beige food! I would get home from work and eat a whole bag of potato smilies Grin The good thing was it did pass then I could go back to eating pretty normally again after that, so I'd say go with it!

Happymumma29 · 04/02/2020 22:44

Haha @ELM8 I've eaten a fair amount of hula hoops and chip sticks so far!

I'm exactly the same! I'm 7 weeks and I'm currently eating every hour or so or as soon as I feel the sickness feeling creeping in. The only thing that helps in eating so I eat what ever I can. Hoping it passes soon as I'm becoming worried I'll be massive!!

INeedNewShoes · 04/02/2020 23:11

You have my sympathy! I felt SO nauseous in my first 18 weeks. The only thing that helped was eating very regularly (every half an hour) I tried to restrict my half hourly snacks to being an oatcake. I have an incredibly sweet tooth and knew things would be bad if I allowed myself to use sweet foods to keep the nausea at bay.

The other thing I did was to split my lunch up into two courses an hour or so apart.

Bby20 · 05/02/2020 07:02

I was the same, my worst sickness was between 2am and 8am, I kept ritz crackers by my bed to snack when I woke up in the night feeling sick and would have to eat a banana before getting up. I'm 13 weeks and still getting a bit nauseous in the night so keeping snacks by my bed as otherwise I cant get back to sleep. During the day I've been eating a lot of fruit and beige food. Wad worried I'd pile on the weight but so far I've not gained anything.

Cherryrainbow · 05/02/2020 09:40

I've found cornflakes keep the nausea at bay atm

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 05/02/2020 09:44

I had this and was especially bad in the mornings, I think because I hadnt eaten all night long.

I started keeping some crackers by my bed. When I woke in the morning i'd eat one and it made things better.

I chose crackers because they're dry and not that nice, so I was unlikely to over-indulge.

tacosplease · 05/02/2020 09:59

I was exactly the same OP - constantly eating slices of dry brown bread to keep the nausea at bay!

Eggcellent29 · 05/02/2020 11:06

Yup I had this! Even with only a few weeks to go I start to feel very strange if I don’t eat regularly. But even with all the beige food I’ve eaten, I’ve gained about 2 stone throughout, so not too bad. I feel like it’s not much for how much I’ve scoffed if that makes sense!! 😂

toomuchteaandcake · 05/02/2020 11:33

Yep this was me too, passed at around 12 weeks

ConstantlyPanicking · 05/02/2020 13:02

Hi OP,

I'm almost 8 weeks now and have struggled really badly with nausea for around 3/4 weeks now. I've found the best thing is to not necessarily eat a 'meal' until the evening or dinner, and throughout the day I snack and graze. The best things i've had are fruit, cereal bars, salty or cheesy crackers. I've been so worried too that snacking will make my weight pile on but if you can try to choose the healthier alternatives where you can then do, but if you are craving some chocolate or sweets, let yourself have it or you will just feel miserable. I know I do!!!! As long as it is in moderation it will be okay!

Ginger is supposed to be a life saver too if you can stomach it (I cant at all).

Maybe try sipping on sugar free lemonade too?

Lastly SO many people have advised me to have a couple of rich tea biscuits by the bed for when you wake up, if you can try to wake yourself up a little earlier than you need to and then eat them before you actually get out of bed, this is supposed to help too.

Really hope this helps!! x

Happymumma29 · 05/02/2020 22:02

Thanks so much everyone for sharing your tips and experiences! I'm definitely getting some rich teas for the bedroom. I am also getting a bit of reflux now which is horrible. Any tips on that would be great too x

Same symptoms but thought of eating also makes me feel sick! I have no appetite for anything in particular and nothing seems to taste nice :( I love my food too!

Hp7425 · 05/02/2020 22:20

Yep this was me! I stuffed myself on carbs to help. My favourite was a massive Yorkshire pudding with chips and gravy haha.

I found ginger biscuits helped at work and thankfully it eased by 12 weeks

Sleepycat91 · 05/02/2020 22:28

My 2nd pregnancy was awful, if i didnt eat every 2 hours i was floored with sickness, i couldnt move in the mornings. All i could eat was toast. It did stop just past 12 weeks i think.
