Will the nausea and sickness stop after birth

Hi everyone, I am hoping for some reassurance but also honesty!!!

I am due to give birth to my second in June and have been suffering majorly with sickness and nausea the whole way through so far (both girls)- I can't really think of a day where I felt 'normal' or had energy!!! I wasn't as sick with my first and wasn't this tired and drained!

Because I have been feeling like this for 21 weeks now, I keep thinking that 'this is it for good' 'I am always gonna feel like this forever'....

Where I haven't suffered this bad before I was just wondering if this is likely to go once I've given birth...I know I lll have the normal birth symptoms, pains etc but will my sickness stop, will I feel 'normal' again after....I am so scared I'm going to feel like this forever Confused

So if you have suffered - did it stop for you???

Thank you xxx

Yes! It will stop, I was the exact same as you and it went about an hour after my c section. The sleepless nights haven’t bothered me one bit as its absolutely no where near how bad I felt when pregnant.

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/02/2020 20:08

With my last treasure, it lasted until about 2 weeks after he was born. No actual sickness after birth just nausea.

jenniferjane21 · 04/02/2020 20:11

Yes, it stopped about an hour after I gave birth. Just like that. Amazing relief!

FiresideTreats · 04/02/2020 20:17

Yes, for me the relief was instant. I brushed my teeth a few hours after I gave birth and WASN'T sick and it blew my mind.

Bol87 · 04/02/2020 20:18

Yep, it’ll stop. I’ve had HG in both my pregnancies all the way through (well, so far to 34 weeks this time). I was sick immediately after birth, shortly after the injection to remove the placenta so I think that caused it. I wasn’t sick in labour interestingly. I remember getting down to the ward & being presented with a meal & it suddenly dawned on me that I no longer felt remotely sick. I kept telling my OH how good the food was and he was just looking at me like I was mad to enjoy the awful looking hospital food 😂

The first couple weeks post birth I felt amazing despite being exhausted. I could eat, I wasn’t uncomfortable anymore, I could sleep (briefly obviously) & I didn’t need 1000 wees an hour!

I’m looking forwards to all this in a March.. I wish it would hurry up so I never have to do any of this ever again!

I am smiling reading your messages of reassurance !!! Thank you so much for taking the time to reply- I will treasure your replies and hold hope that like you it WILL go! It's so depressing feeling so ill 24/7, it disengages you from everything and you feel useless and lazy!!! I just hold hope that following birth I might feel like me again and like you said the sleepless nights will be a dream in comparison to feeling consistently sick or being sick!!!

Xxx :)

Yes, had HG with all pregnancies. Vomited upto and during labour. As soon as the baby was out I was hungry for ALL THE FOOD...

mummab2019 · 04/02/2020 20:20

@bol87

I hope the next couple of months fly for you and you feel human again very soon!!! I must say with my first I remember eating toast immediately afterwards and it was the BEST tea and toast evvvverrrr!

It will. It's easy to think it'll go on forever. I was sick during labour too but as soon as I gave birth I felt myself again x

I know exactly how you feel! I had nausea from 4 weeks (incidentally I had a boy though). The vomiting started at 12 weeks exactly (triggered by the pint of water I had to drink for the scan🤦🏼‍♀️). Nausea and vomiting at its worst at 14-15 weeks. It never went away completely but got considerably better in the third trimester. It only occurred to me weeks after DS was born that it literally vanished the day he appeared!

I found the GP unhelpful when I was 15 weeks, but I called again at 22 weeks and was prescribed cyclizine, which did seem to help a bit. Please ask for medication, you don't need to continue to suffer! This is something no-one tells you about I found, but actually NVP lasts all the way through for one in 20, so you're in good company!

I found everything ginger and non-alcoholic beer helped, as well as not letting myself get hungry. Hang in there, it'll soon be a distant memory!

Fouroutoffour · 04/02/2020 21:00

Oh, and hospital food tastes so good because you're ravenous post-birth when your body is gearing up for breastfeeding. I was rather disappointed with the quality the next time I had itGrin

IRememberSoIDo · 04/02/2020 21:12

Yes it will go. I too had HG and was afraid I'd be the one person who would never return to normal. For me on my second I had her on the Saturday evening and it wasn't until the Monday morning that I actually tasted and enjoyed food and wasn't nauseous. Those corn flakes still go down in history as the best meal I ever had!!! The tea lady brought me more as she knew me from all my IV for fluids visits during pregnancy! It will pass! Good luck 👍🏻

stealthbanana · 04/02/2020 21:15

I had bad HG with both pregnancies. Like the others, I felt better as soon as id given birth -I vomited up to and including labour (including puking up an entire bottle of red Gatorade all over the midwife - id warned them it wasn’t a good idea and they pushed me to drink it Grin). In the aftermath of birth I wasn’t really thinking about it but like a PP the penny dropped when they bought me the food menu (I gave birth privately so had a choice) and I didn’t feel instantly nauseous as I contemplated ordering from it. Bliss!

stealthbanana · 04/02/2020 21:17

PS yy to getting meds. I had Cyclizine, ondansetron and metoclopramide and they made a massive difference to the vomiting (not the nausea sadly).

Hillwalker1 · 04/02/2020 21:19

Yes, I wanted to kiss the mid wife. It was amazing and when I feel sad I say to myself, at least I don’t feel sick all of the time. Was also pleased about the baby of course

HeyMac · 04/02/2020 21:57

Yes. I was only sick once after birth and then it stopped. Didn't get my appetite back for a few days but ate loads after that.
