Hi...hoping for some help. Have just picked up a second hand bugaboo donkey...it has a bit of a whiff of smoke, does anyone know if the carrycots and skirts and hood are machine washable?

I bung everything in the washing machine even when they say wipe clean only... lunch boxes, sofa covers, table cloths... I'd shove it in on a quick cold wash

Orangedaisy · 04/02/2020 16:59

I washed mine at 30 and it was fine. Didn’t look quite as new and some of the fabric didn’t sit quite as well (bunched in places) but still fit and was perfectly functional.

Orangedaisy · 04/02/2020 17:03

Sorry mine was an old cameleon but I think the fabric is the same

Sorry to jump in with a semi-related question.. I've bought a second hand chameleon. Does it need a new mattress? Seems like it should as I've bought new mattresses for the crib etc but I'm in two minds!

Legomanships · 04/02/2020 17:12

Is the alternative just to steep them in the bath or something? I think I’ll chuck them in and see how they fair 😬

I cleaned mine with some diluted vanish and then put it on the lowest rinse cycle it came out great. I just made sure I opened it all out to dry.

A friend of mine washed her pram liners etc and they lost their shape.

Try looking for a second hand baby item shop, the one near us cleans up prams lovely.

ShivD · 04/02/2020 17:27

They can all be machine washed, maybe see if there’s a YouTube video of how to dismantle as there’s usually boards and stuff to remove before sticking in the machine

I’d buy a new carrycot mattress though, you can get direct from Bugaboo or some online baby shops toox

trotesio · 04/02/2020 17:34

No advice, but did you know it came from a smokers house?

Unless I could 100% remove all traces of smoke I would not feel comfortable putting a baby in it as I'm sure there would still be toxins the baby would be breathing in.

Is replacing the material an option?

Legomanships · 04/02/2020 17:41

To be honest, I don’t know if the smell is smoke exactly, just a sort of fusty smell...not sure how to describe it. Will replace the mattresses, and I need to get another carry cot skirt anyway, so will maybe price up replacing everything if the wash doesn’t go well

I always washed every fabric from my prams, second third and now fourth baby had/have a second hand one.

I used a gentle wash program, 20 degrees, no dryer. They were all fine and smelled nice afterwards. Obviously put some conditioner if they smell a bit, so you can take away the smell.

user1493413286 · 04/02/2020 18:43

Part of the sales pitch for my bugaboo from the shop was that everything can be removed and washed so I’d hope it all can be

Orangedaisy · 04/02/2020 18:48

@dandeline I would definitely buy a new mattress, just not worth not doing so. Particularly if your baby might decide to do all naps in it.

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 04/02/2020 19:16

There’s a few companies that do pram cleaning. Google one near you. It might be a job for a professional Smile

Legomanships · 04/02/2020 21:07

Washing machine has sorted out the smells, no shrinkage, but didn’t try the seats parts because they have quite stiff plastic in them and I can’t see how they would spin...probably someone can help me out on that 😂

OP posts:

I've washed the sunshades that have plastic in. Put the lowest spin and then put them to dry with something underneath to collect water. Mine is all clean now. I have an icandy double.
