Ongoing fever - safe dose of paracetamol?

Hi all,

For about the past 2 months I have had a high temp of about 38.5 - I don't have any other symptoms so I haven't done anything about it. However, since finding out that I'm pregnant (only early days, about 4 and a half weeks) I have read that fever when pregnant is really detrimental to the foetus and can cause birth defects.

I have booked an appointment with my GP to get to the root of the ongoing fever, but in the meantime does anyone know what dosage of paracetamol is safe in the first trimester? I usually take 2 x 500 mg at once, but didn't want to overdo it so took 1 x 250 mg but it only brought my temp down for half an hour... the NHS website doesn't give an actual dose, it only says that the lowest amount for he least time possible should be taken...

Thanks!

The normal dose is fine. So 2x500mg up to four times in 24 hours at least 4 hours between doses.

I’ve just come out of hospital with a bad infection and my temp went up to 40, they have told me to keep taking the normal dose of paracetamol . It’s the best and safest option for it . Hope you feel better soon and congrats 🥳 xxx

1g 4x a day. Can take 4hrly but no more than 4 doses in 24 hours. I took 6hrly during pregnancy when I had the flu. So 6, 12, 6 and 12. X
