Looking for breast pump recommendations please. Would prefer electric and not too expensive but not sure which would be best. Thanks!

what are you using it for? If you want to pump a lot (e.g. planning to go back to work quickly, or needing partner to do 2+ feeds per day) I have heard good things about the medela swing double pump.

If you just want to build up a supply for occasional evenings out, or one or two daytime feeds when you go back to work, a single pump would probably be sufficient and you could pump from one breast whilst feeding baby from the other. Many women also like the Haakaa or naturebond manual pumps which just collect a little from each feed rather than lots at a time, but it can be mixed.

Also it is recommended not to start using a pump until your milk supply is settled at about 6 weeks. I didnt follow this advice and had very uncomfortable case of oversupply at about 6 weeks.

I’d suggest looking for one that’s a closed rather than open system (so the milk can’t get into the tubes which saves you cleaning them!). I’d recommend the ardo calypso, I found this to be as effective for me as the hospital grade ones. I personally didn’t get on well with the Phillips/avent one.

@rhymingrabbit3 thanks very much for the advice. Probably looking for one more for the occasional short time away from baby etc as planning to take as much maternity leave as possible, if I manage to continue breast feeding by then I may look at investing in a more expensive pump as I work shifts which may make pumping regularly quite difficult too! That's great thanks for letting me know that I breastfed my first and started pumping quite quickly and remember being quite engorged and didn't realise they didn't recommend it until 6 weeks. The pump I used last time was ok but is broken so unsure whether to go for that or another. Will look at what you have suggested thank you x

@MOR19 thanks very much! Sounds like a good idea, the less cleaning the better as I'll have a 2 year old and newborn so think my hands will be rather full!
