Holidays/maternity leave question

stompstompstompyourfeet · 02/02/2020 19:58

My holiday year runs from the 1st January - 31st December. DD is due on the 24th May.

Am I able to use my full holiday allowance for the year to add onto my maternity leave so I can go early? Otherwise my holiday allowance won’t get used and it’ll go to late.

Usual policy is that you can take what you have accrued before Mat leave before you go, and tag on the remainder to the end of your leave. I think your company are obliged to let you take it.

Mine was exactly the same. I took it all before I left (as I had a toddler too) I then used the following years to extend my leave.

With my first I took half before I had her and used the other half to have a month of only working 3 days a week

My company have allowed me to take my full years allowance before I go on mat leave mid June.

I work for a public service and our leave year runs April to March. I went off in August but took the balance of the year’s allowance before I went off (two weeks taken earlier in year) and started my mat leave the day the baby was due. I figured it worked out the same. Either go on mat leave at 37 weeks and take three weeks holiday at the end or take three weeks holiday and then go on mat leave from due date.

Policy for mine is to only get the holidays for what you've worked that year. Then the rest of the years is added on when you get back. Probably so you don't mug them off and not go back after taking all your holidays.
I'm starting my mat leave last week of May and I've been given 11.5 days between now and then. That's having a yearly allowance of 28 days.
