What does a baby movement feel like?

Hi ladies

I am a first time mum, 16 weeks pregnant and as most first time mums, i am wondering if the sensations i feel are indeed baby kicking. Having done a quick google search, the descriptions really are very vague and confusing eg, popping, bubbles, butterflies.

I am convinced that i have this week started feeling the baby kick, i would describe it as actually a sharp but not painful scratch or being prodded lightly by a finger nail,( not very nice imagery i know lol) they follow in succession for few seconds, and stop, this occurring several times a day, they are not strong enough to feel when active bit more when lying down.

How would you describe your first sensation of baby kicking?
Is what im feeling indeed baby or just something else? I also read that muscles twitch when pregnant, wondering if this is indeed that and not baby?

My oldest is now 11 years old... I can't say that I remember the FIRST time that I felt her movements. Much like you, I couldn't tell if I was feeling movements or something else. I would think that at 16 weeks, and your first pregnancy, it might be too early to feel anything, but every body is different. Congratulations.

For me it felt like twitches - you know when you get a trapped nerve under your eye or something - like that. Really light at first then gradually got stronger

I never understood the bubbles or popping sensation thing.

For me it felt like.. a tiny tiny tiny tiny human was moving inside me.

It feels exactly like you have something moving in you that wasn’t there before. Very light little nudges and squirms. But there nonetheless.

Everyone will probably have different descriptions. You’ll know when it’s baby :)

@InMyHeadAllTheTime you are probably right, as a new mum i guess i might be trying to look for reassurance. Thank you after ttc for a while I'm over the moon.

@Dennisreynoldsduster when you say twitches, could you see when looking at your belly or just feel them? I literally stare at my belly for a few minutes everyday when i get out the shower and could see some weird twitching. So strange to think a human is inside me 😂

@YicketyYackMamasBack aahh i love your description that is so adorable.

To me it felt like someone blowing soap bubbles in my belly, and I really don't have a better description for it...
Now I'm almost 32 weeks and it's soo much more intense. I can feel all the kicks and punches and him changing positions in there. I also love interacting with him; he responds particularly well to a tiny torch pointed directly at my belly. I move it around and he follows 🙂

It did feel like bubbles for me but I didn’t realise what it was until I was about 18 weeks.

This pregnancy I’ve got an anterior placenta so I can barely feel the baby. I’m getting more feelings now I’m 24 weeks but I didn’t feel anything until later

I did feel bubbles, for a while it felt like when you are about to have an upset tummy and the gas is inside. Then I felt something doing a very gentle roll around inside. Then one day it was a proper kick. Beautiful things those baby kicks

With my first it felt like a like fish swimming inside.
This is my 3rd it feels like someone gently tapping me but from the inside. Or like some say a muscle twitch.

With my second I had a urine infection. It wasn't painful but it felt almost like shards of glass falling in my tummy. I'd probably relate that feeling more to what you are describing like a finger nail.
Could be worth getting your urine checked.

I was 17 weeks when I first felt DS. It was a popping sound, like popcorn. I wasnt sure at first, but they persisted and the midwife said they were. They got stronger as time went on. I've now got a beautiful nearly three year old, though I'll never forget those kicks
