2nd baby at 35 and risk factors

Hi, looking for advice about planning a second baby.

I’m nearly 35 which I know isn’t a concern as a factor on its own. But I’ve had 2 previous miscarriages followed by an IUGR pregnancy (which was all fine in the end, although very stressful, resulted in my 4.5lb DD) so expect a next pregnancy would be treated as high risk anyway.

I’m currently undergoing some tests to check for blood clotting issues so I guess the results of those will help make a decision but wondered what others thought. Should I crack on given my age and potential problems could occur? DD is now 14 months so I’m sort of feeling ready again but it’s tricky timing with work.

Would be great to hear from anyone who has ever faced this kind of dilemma!

I don't know whether I'm qualified to respond to your post but I'm late 30's and have a young baby and am considering another.

I'm so sorry you have gone through such hard times. It depends on you and what support you have xx

It’s so hard isn’t it when things aren’t straightforward, I feel like my head is spinning!

I do have good support so all that side of things is fine. I’m just at a crossroads at work but don’t know if I have time to try and fix my career as well as this!

Sorry don’t have much to add but I’m also 35 and I’m pregnant with my second dc, I went for my booking appointment this week expecting to be warned of risks of being older but nothing was mentioned.
In the end I asked and the midwife said “oh no, we don’t consider you to be higher risk until 40 now”
I was lucky to have a straightforward pregnancy last time so am considered low risk so I think your age won’t count but obviously previous pregnancy complications might x

I'm 34, 8 weeks gone and do have that blood clotting thing you're being tested for (lupus anticoagulant). On injection heparin for it.
Just got to see how it goes!

My sister in law just had baby number 3 by csection at 39. No drama. Never had a miscarriage.

You can just never tell really can you?

I know that's not helpful but the age and blood clotting things are not insurmountable issues x

Hi love, no medical factors really here but had two losses last year at 36 and now 10.5wks with my first baby and I'll be 37 soon xx

Corilee2806 · 01/02/2020 21:17

Yes, there’s just so many unknowns which I think is what I’m finding slightly overwhelming. That’s reassuring on the blood clotting thing though, I know it doesn’t always mean complications but yet to find out if it could have in my case.

Also good to know about 35 not being considered the risk factor it was. I know things won’t magically change when I turn 35 anyway, and a lot of the media reporting on it being an issue is based on old data.

Sorry to hear of your losses @Maggie272 and wishing you lots of health for this pregnancy, congratulations!

No medical issues that I'm aware of but i'm currently 12+1 with my first baby and I'm 37 - I was told by my midwife that 40 is the 'magic' age now rather than 35 but I know plenty of women over 40 who've had beautiful healthy babies as well so it's certainly not as big a deal as Google might lead you to believe.
No idea about the other issues you've faced but definitely strike age off your list of reasons not to try for another baby.

I will be 37 this month and I am currently 33 weeks pregnant.
I have had 3 miscarriages and also had problems with blood clotting.
I have been taking clexane injections everyday throughout the pregnancy.
I've had a pretty straight forward pregnancy so far and I will be having a c section as my first was emergency c section.

Thank you for your helpful replies! I will see what the outcome of these tests is and then go from there I guess. So much to consider!

I have no medical issues but pregnant with #3 and will be 37 when it’s born. I fell pregnant within 3 months.
No one has said anything about me being older. It doesn’t seem to be an issue at all. Best of Luck!
