Induction - experiences and lists?!

Hi all,

I’ve been booked for an induction at 38 weeks due to a pre-existing condition. It’s my first baby so I’ve no experience of any of this!

Has anyone had the 24hr propess pessary? Did it work quickly or did you need more/drip? And experiences of epidural as I’ve been advised to have one to minimise impact of my condition.

What should I bring and in what quantities? Have packed the babies bag, but finding it hard to know what to pack for me as I am at higher risk than other induced ladies for instrumental and c-section so feel like I need to be prepared for all eventualities over a unspecified period of time!

Any help, experiences or top tips would be greatly appreciated! From one (slightly panicked) first time mum to be...(!)

How long is a piece of string!
My induction took 2 days, but once I was in labour, I gave birth in 2 hours.
My DD was induced. Had the pessary at 10am, started in labour at 9pm, gave birth at 11pm. Neither of us had time for an epidural.i believe that epidurals can result in a higher need for intervention as you can't feel the contractions.
If you're high risk, is there a reason why you can't have a CS?

I had to have two pessaries over the space of 48 hours, after this they were happy to break my waters but I had to wait nearly another 24 hours for a bed as it was so busy. I had to have the drip, which resulted in me hyper stimulating so I did end up asking for an epidural, I started labour at 9am and my son was born and 12.30am the following morning (on his due date). Once I had the epidural it was a very calm process up until the last 30 minutes, my son was back to back, had the cord wrapped around his neck twice so had to be pulled out using a kiwi, but everyone was so calm I had no idea I was minutes off an emergency c-section. My son was born healthy and very relaxed. It may sound a bit stressful, but being my first baby I had nothing to compare it to, and I actually really enjoyed the whole process and can't actually remember being in that much pain at any point (obviously I was as I needed an epidural, but I can't remember it being that bad). As far as clothing goes, I would just suggest soft loose clothing, if there's a chance of c- section I would definitely take some baggy night dresses. Good luck, you get the most amazing gift at the end 😀
