HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO BUY?

I’m due August, first time Mum.

In all honestly, I’ve never spent a great deal of time around babies.

I’m finding it really really difficult to grasp how much I need to buy, particularly clothing.

As I’m due in high summer, I’m expecting baby will need fairly light clothing - planning to do mainly play suits / sleep suits / leggings but how many do I need?

Also planning to cloth nappy but that’s another minefield. I’d really like to keep waste to a minimum.

Can someone please give me a checklist of what I need for baby?

Many thanks.

You might get lots of gifts from friends/ family etc. Be specific and let them know what you need.

Basics for summer to start with :
Pack of sleeveless vest
Pack of short sleeve vest
Couple of packs of baby grows for sleeping / general day time.
Short sleeve baby grows .. it can get hot !
Muslins
The list can go on. But as long as you have enough clean while you have the washing in you’ll be fine 👍
Good luck xx

You won’t need nearly as much as you think. I’d probably say 8 each of short sleeve vests, long sleeve vests, sleepsuits and rompers will be plenty for clothing. DD was born in summer and I just put her in rompers or sleepsuits in the daytime and either a vest or sleepsuit at night depending on how hot it was.

You’ll probably get given loads of stuff, I found I had way too many clothes for the first 6 months and quite a few things went unworn unfortunately.

August can be pretty hit and miss for weather in the UK - a couple of cardigans would be a good addition especially going into the autumn. As previous posters have said you really don't need much and can always top up if you can't cope with the washing every few days. I actually asked for clothing gifts to be in bigger sizes so they had something to grow into and I took care of all the newborn bits so knew I had enough without being too much.

Definitely don't buy too many clothes in the beginning, but buy lots of muslins!
I had a summer baby and she mainly wore short sleeve vests and rompers, at night we had a light sleeping bag. As other posters have said it might be handy to buy a couple of packets of short sleeve vests, sleeveless vests, and sleepsuits.
We had Amazon prime and so if we found we needed something once baby arrived we had next day delivery!

Yay for cloth nappies!
Best thing is to see if you have a local cloth nappy that you can trail out a couple of different kinds. Like normal nappies it depends on the shape of your babies bum.

Where are you based?

Also there are loads of newborn bundles on eBay mostly unworn or nearly new. I would get a couple of those
