I think I’ve got piles. Sorry for TMI but I have something painful hanging from my anus. Blush
Is there anything I can use to relieve them?
Do I need to be concerned? Im 36 weeks pregnant.

Phone your midwife or doctor, they will give you a cream .

elb1504 · 29/01/2020 16:08

You can get cream from chemist or even supermarket just worth checking with pharmacist its suitable to use when pregnant. I've used Germaloids brand which pharmacist said was fine to use.

bumpit · 29/01/2020 16:15

Thanks @elb I was presuming there would be something over the counter I could use. I’ll ask pharmacist about this

Witch hazel is another one mentioned online. Anyone use this when pregnant?

Anusol. I've got a massive pile hanging out currently. It is uncinfirtable but was worse at the weekend

Rubyroost · 29/01/2020 16:26

This is over the counter btw, you can get pessary or cream

SallyCinnamon3009 · 29/01/2020 19:15

Lavender oil! Mix it with a few drops of milk and then add it to your bath, the milk means the oils is absorbed onto the water and doesn't just sit on top. Works so much better than the Anusol cream the dr will give you! It's also great for healing after giving birth and can be sprinkled onto maternity pads directly.

Junobug · 29/01/2020 22:17

Anusol suppositories are great. I use the ones with hydrocortisone as it's what works for me but i know some people prefer to avoid hc in pregnancy.

Robs20 · 29/01/2020 23:19

I just came here to post EXACTLY the same thing (was even going to use the same title!).
I am only 24 weeks but today piles situation has got worse. I can’t push the bloody thing back in anymore (sorry tmi) and just made the mistake of looking in a mirror and it is huge.
I am waddling around because it is so painful.
Are you going to midwife/ gp/ pharmacist? I am so embarrassed to have to discuss this f2f but needs must.
Good luck with getting yours sorted!

bookish83 · 30/01/2020 00:59

The over the counter creams help. You can use ones with mild steroids etc in but you have to check they are ok with your doctorS

I also used ice packs and witch hazel- witch hazel several times a day. And used wet wipes instead of toilet roll

X

Rubyroost · 30/01/2020 01:04

@Robs20 I've got a big one currently and was really really bad at the weekend. Its currently a lot more comfortable. I'm applying cream morning and night and after every bowel movement. Get on the anusol, drink water and eat plenty of fibre. Prone juice if necessary- it will get better I'm sure. It'll probably then get worse again too.

mrssunshinexxx · 09/03/2020 21:01

@bookish83 do you just use neat witch hazel ? Does it work ?

bookish83 · 09/03/2020 23:56

I did use newt with hazel- several times a day on a cotton wool pad. Placed it on the area and let it soak in for a little while.

I felt that it worked and at the very least, kept the area clean.

I had an external one and it popped 🙈 so needed to keep the area clean when it popped x

bookish83 · 09/03/2020 23:57

*neat witch hazel

mrssunshinexxx · 10/03/2020 07:12

@bookish83 mine are external and I'm pregnant and so worried about how much worse they could get so want to try nip it in the bud if I can but there's so much advise on what's best to use

bookish83 · 10/03/2020 07:45

They really are awful.

Sorry by external I mean that it is like a rock hard lump with so much pressure inside. Different to a pile 'hanging' out. Its a blood clot essentially and usually a doctor would lance it. Luckily or unluckily mine just burst on about the second day and though I was in pain for about a month, it was nothing like the pain before it burst! I have no idea how it did but the relief was amazing.

I couldn't sit down or anything. I used anusol, witch hazel, ice packs, and a french version of a cream for a few days which had lidocane in I think. That helped the most but you have to seek advice.

I would go to the doctor and ask for the strongest cream you can get.

If by external you mean they feel like they can move, pop them back up 🙈

Saoirse22 · 10/03/2020 11:34

Hope the OTC creams will work for you OP. Sadly, neither them nor any stronger cream with hydrocortisone that my GP prescribed are helping me. Same with witch hazel, sitz baths etc. Some things give a small, temporary relief and that's it. My case is a bit different as I already had piles before pregnancy, for over 10 years now. Right now it seems like surgery is my only option for a normal life Sad

Alarae · 10/03/2020 11:52

My sympathies.

I had a horrible external one that was a literal pain in the ass to sit on.

The only relief I got was one day when the bloody thing burst! A few others have since joined the party but none have thrombosed (blood clot) so they don't bother me at the moment.

babymama19 · 10/03/2020 12:39

Witch hazel on a cotton pad, stick it on there and leave over night. Mine shrunk to a third of the size in one night and hurt so much less after!!
