I posted in the early hrs of this morning about being 41 wks and waking up with a red, sore rash in my groin. Unfortunately no-one was really able to advise, so wanted to post here for future info.

I was worried because I'm 40+6 today, and woke up with a very red, sore rash in my groin and outer labia in the night. It had calmed a bit by morning so was less worried, but after showering (and having a bit of a feel!) decided to call for some advice anyway. The midwives unit wasn't concerned (no bleeding, baby moving normally etc), told me to phone GP. I called the GP, and had a call back and appointment with duty doctor within 2 hrs - speed, I think, because of pregnancy! Turns out its intertrigo, a fungal infection not unlike athletes foot, and common in hot, sweaty areas where skin rubs together. The GP didn't seem to think it was a big problem and shouldn't cause any issue when labour eventually happens.

I've been prescribed hydrocortisone with miconazole (Daktacort) to apply twice a day for a week. I will add a note of this myself to my pregnancy notes, I should have taken them with me really.

I think the same issue is probably what's been causing soreness under my boobs, so will use a little of the cream there too.

Sorry if this is all TMI or not of interest, but I hope it's still for someone searching for help with a similar problem in the future. From my experience today, the surgery were perfectly happy to see me quickly because of my advanced pregnancy, so do try and get seen if you have any concerns!

Ooo love that sounds really uncomfortable! Hope the cream is helping and glad your GP was so speedy with the sensible advice.
