Cleft lip & baby's stomach is small

Up to today, I have had the most wonderful Pregnancy. I feel baby rolling and kicking daily. At our 20 week scan today, they told us baby has a cleft lip on both sides, and at first they couldn't detect a stomach. We were referred to a consultant who could only see a very very tiny stomach, she also said it looks like the baby's heart is bigger on one side, but could've been the baby's position. we have now been referred again to another hospital in London but not until Friday so we still don't have any proper results and we just don't know how to feel.

Does anyone have any experience or success stories in any of these things? What does a small stomach actually mean for the baby? We just have no idea.

Thank you x

I look after a little boy who was born with a clef lip and I honestly did not realise until his mum told me. Even then it's only a faint white line on his lip and his speech is totally normal so fingers crossed that will all be okay with your baby. I have no idea about the small stomach maybe go prepared with some questions to next scan? Sending positive thoughts Thanks

I’m sorry. It’s really hard to deal with. I suspect the stomach is small, in part, because of an enlarged heart and weakness in the diaphragm.
No words and only you can know the right decision for you. Quality of life is entirely subjective but the real issue is more the impact on you.

Unfortunately, many babies with significant anomalies don’t survive to term anyway. A late, unplanned pregnancy loss is both emotionally very hard to deal with (as is a planned loss) but can be physically quite risky to the mother.

Hopefully you have good support in real life.

So sorry OP. Have you made a decision already or are you awaiting amnio results? An impossible choice for you. I second ARC as a good sounding board for your thoughts x

My daughter is friends with a boy who was born with a cleft lip. I must say I would never have know if it hadn't come up in conversation with his parents. The difference they made was incredible.
