Stressed at work, don't know what to do!

Hi all,

I'm nearly 27 weeks pregnant and I work in an office. My manager has been really snappy and rude to me the last 2 days and I'm feeling so stressed from work. He's a difficult person to work with anyway as he doesn't do his job well, lies, makes excuses and is generally sneaky with work bits.
I've had to put up with it for the past 4 years and I'm sick of it.
I feel so stressed right now I can't stop crying. My heart is racing and this can't be good for my unborn baby!
He spoke to me like shit in front of colleagues earlier and I'm at the point I don't want to work with him but have 3 months until maternity leave.
I'm calling the dr to see if they can do anything.
Does anyone know the rules about maternity and being signed off?
I just know I can't cope with this any longer, being pregnant I'm all over the place and emotional anyway but this has built up over 4 years.

In my first pregnancy 12 years ago they signed me off work for 2 weeks due to stress.
Try and ignore that wanker. Dunno how people like that always land management positions honestly

@delbelleber
When were you signed off during your pregnancy?and did it affect you maternity leave as I know they can start you early but not sure when that's from.
It's so hard to ignore when I have to work closely with him but I honestly at the moment don't even want to talk to him.
I completely agree!
He does everything in his power to make work hard and were all supposed to be working as a team!

I can't remember now. But it didn't affect maternity leave.
He sounds like a power mad idiot!

Hi @ejmay90, if you are signed off 4 weeks before your due date (i.e. 36 weeks) it will automatically start your maternity leave. If you are signed off work during pregnancy it will not impact your maternity leave and it wont be counted for your record of sickness. Good luck, he sounds like an idiot! It probably seems worse because of being pregnant and have all the hormones, whereas you would normally be able to deal with it (not that that is an excuse for his behaviour). Maybe having a week off would give you some headspace and you would feel better.

@LH1987 that's great thank you, that's what I wanted to know.
I'm only 27 weeks so no where near yet, although going on at 36 weeks wouldn't be such a bad idea now I come to think of it!
Yea I agree hormones probably don't help at all but this stress has been building for years I think. Being pregnant I'm not putting up with it as mine and babys health is more important. He is an idiot!
Yea I think it would help, I have booked a drs appointment for tomorrow morning.
I wish I could just say I'll work from home the next 11 weeks but I can't :(

@ejmay90 there are no prizes being given for putting up with stuff like this and damaging your health so just do whatever is best for you and the baby!

A bit different to you and a different type of stress, but I work in A+E as a nurse and im 32 weeks pregnant. I couldnt do it anymore, the pace and the stress of it, so I went to my GP and he reduced my hours. Its been really helpful, and im really pleased I did it.

Could this be an option for you if you didnt want to go sick then go back to work?

Being signed off sick only impacts on maternity leave at 36 weeks and beyond

ejmay90 · 28/01/2020 16:40

@LH1987 exactly that! Thank you :)

@Letsallscreamatthesistene ohh really!
Yea I bet that would massively help especially working in a+e!

I'm not sure about my hours being reduced, I will ask the gp tomorrow!

Ok great thanks, not that far yet luckily but may bring my maternity leave a week forward anyway!
