Iugr? Baby not growing well

Hi,
Just wondering peoples experiences, I have been having growth scans since 28 weeks and baby started on the 50th centile, at 32 weeks tailed off slightly then at 34 weeks I had reduced movements so they decided to do another scan and now weighing just above the 10th centile, midwife said she thinks something is wrong with my placenta and got to go for scans every week to check the cord and blood flow, so worried after being told something is wrong and wondered if anyone else has experienced this?
I was having a planned c section for at around 39 weeks, also wondered if baby would end up being delivered before then now this has happened?
Thanks x

I've not experienced this myself but it's very good they are keeping a close eye and doing the weekly scans.

My experience was later on than yours.

My daughter stopped growing at 36 weeks it wasn't discovered until 38 weeks. Had a growth scan and because she was a good size they kept her in. But another scan at 40 weeks showed she'd dropped from 50th to 20th centile so I was induced the next day. She was 17th centile when born.

I don't imagine they'll let you go to 39 weeks but they'll keep her in whilst it's still the best place for her.

I was never told why apart from a passing comment from the midwife in the delivery room that the umbilical cord was really thin 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway, she's perfectly fine. A happy, healthy and very tall toddler! We've had no health issues what so ever despite the initial panic.

I had two IUGR pregnancies. First I had no idea. Got severe pre eclampsia at 32 weeks. So please read up on symptoms and any sign go straight in.

Second time I was in blood thinners and delivered at 37 weeks when growth stopped. Although it had been dropping from 26 weeks steadily.

They know which is the main thing and are monitoring you closely. But any signs of reduced movement or not feeling right then go straight in. Please don’t be afraid of making a fuss. You’re not.

How many weeks are you now? Have you asked for their plan?

Had IUGR my last pregnancy, had several growth scans and also a few episodes of reduced movements. At 36 weeks I saw my consultant who said we could wait two more weeks to see if she goes back on track or induce then. I chose induction then as I was worried. I delivered at 37 weeks and my DD was a bit bigger than the scans measured, but was happy to have her out and not worry.

Like @R2D2abc says. I rarely find the scans predict the correct weight. Don't let them consume you.

Thank you for all your experiences. I'm 34+5 at the moment and got a doppler scan on Thursday, hopefully I'll get my date for delivery on Monday its just such a worrying time.

How did the scan go @Emmalou92?

Coincidentally I was diagnosed with my second iugr yesterday!

Still no idea why it's happened, everything on the scan was fine, just he hasn't grown much since my last scan at 32 weeks.

Emmalou92 · 31/01/2020 14:42

Oh really? Bless you, hope everything goes well.
It was just a doppler scan and to check my cord and the liquid levels etc not a growth so still don't know anymore at the moment, but that was all fine and I feel bigger so fingers crossed he has grown. I see my consultant on Monday so I'm hoping he will let me know a plan of what is going to happen.

DD was delivered at 38 weeks by planned c section due to IUGR. She was fine until a growth scan at 32 weeks (due to a placenta issue picked up at 20 weeks) showed she had dropped below the 10th centile. She was only 5lb 1oz at birth and tiny baby clothes drowned her. She spent time in special care but is now a happy toddler who has overtaken many of her peers in weight. Just be prepared with tiny baby clothes and size 0 nappies as well as the potential for a longer hospital stay and feeding issues. We never established bfing and used formula so we could see how much she was having. Afterwards the consultant said I may have had preeclampsia although I never had protein in my urine.

Exactly the same situation as me. I won’t even go into detail it’s so similar, 28 weeks was sent for a growth scan, had blood flow issues with the placenta so they said it was starting to fail. Had another scan at 33 weeks and was told she would need to be delivered in the next 10 days, had steroids then another scan the next day to which they said even though she was only on the 3rd percentile they will do weekly scans until she’s ready to be born. Has weekly scans and then was booked in for a c section at 37 weeks. Perfectly healthy 4lbs 13oz baby. Dropped a fair bit of weight in the hospital and had some jaundice but she didn’t need any treatment, no visit to NICU, and was able to come home and it’s us when I was ready to be discharged.

It all sounds so scary when they say something isn’t quite right, but they are doing the right thing by monitoring it. Try not to panic yourself, it doesn’t help and it’s exhausting to worry about more than you would in any other pregnancy.

Good luck!Flowers

Hi all, sorry, I'm a bit late to this thread but hoping to ask people who may be in the know. I have IUGR with my second (35 weeks now), being monitored twice a week and as far as the plans are at the mo, it'll be a 37 week CS (prev c section so they won't induce me) I keep forgetting to ask my midwife/consultants at the appointments, but does anyone know why they tend to deliver at 37 weeks, rather than trying to make it to 39/40? Whatever is safest for my baby, of course, but I'm just curious to know, and as I said, my mind is a seive at the mo and I'm yet to ask a professional 🙈
Thanks
