Delayed cord clamping

Hi all. 37 +1 here so getting ready to have my second DC! I wanted to gather some opinions about delayed cord clamping. I wasn't able to have this with my first as she was born poorly. I mentioned to my current midwife that I was happy just to have the cord clamped, vitamin k and placenta whipped out! But she suggested considering this this time as apparently the baby gets lots of extra blood, oxygen and nutrients.

What's everyone's thoughts?

Its standard practice now unless a reason to cut it earlier from what my midwife said x

I would and did have DCC. For the most part it is standard practice not to clamp and cut the cord immediately now, as whilst it is unclamped the baby is getting oxygen. Some units have bedside resuscitaires so even if baby needs resus it can be left unclamped!

Put in in your birth plan. Obviously in case if baby being unwell or you, they will do what's best in the moment.
Otherwise I understand nowadays they're pro delaying cord clamping. I think the best is to wait at least 3 minutes so that baby gets some blood back from being squished after delivery.

I had it with my third. I plan to have it this time also.

I have requested this for both my babies. I wanted to wait until the cord had finished pulsing before it was cut, I got my wish both times :) Unfortunately it didn't prevent DS2 from having poor oxygen when he was born and needing to go to special care for 48 hours, but he was OK in the end, and I'm still glad that we did it - possibly he would have been even more ill had we not, I can't say.

Should be standard practice and is recommended by the nice guidelines, who etc. They get up to 30% less blood if you clamp straight away, before the cord has finished transferring.

It was a no brainer for me, they get what they need from the placenta through delayed cord clamping and also I was faulty blisfully unaware, I had skin to skin from the moment she was born and delayed cord clamping. Then had the injection to speed up the delivery of the placenta.

We are hoping to do delayed clamping if we can. First baby
