Holiday at 7/8 months?

We’re thinking of booking a holiday (in the UK, so no flying etc needed) when I’ll be somewhere between 7 and 8 months pregnant depending which week we pick. As this is my first pregnancy I’m not sure how I’ll be feeling but would love to go. It’ll be cancellable should anything happen or if I get complications but I’m interested to hear what are people’s experiences of going away at this time during pregnancy? Will I be able to enjoy it?

It’ll be June or July, I’m not planning anything too strenuous just some strolls, views, lunches, reading my book, sleeping, maybe a bit of swimming, etc. It’ll be a country house hotel type thing so plenty of relaxing available. My view is that closer to 7 months than 8 would make a big difference in terms of ability to enjoy it, but what do others think?

I think you'll be absolutely fine..! Most women still work right til the end, so you can definitely go on holiday! If it's miles from home, probably 7 months better than 8. But I'd say go, definitely as you can always cancel

Sounds like it'll be more relaxing than being at home... I'd have loved it!

Maybe worth getting travel insurance in case of complications, and definitely take your maternity notes. Happy holiday!

I would make sure you have your maternity notes with you and aren’t too far from a hospital - I personally wouldn’t go somewhere in the middle of nowhere just in case of premature labour or any complications etc. Otherwise sounds lovely! Xx

Sounds fine. I am currently 6 1/2 months pregnant, I would be happy to do all of the above right now.
The only thing thats affected me is a rather achy back, so i wouldn't want anything with too long walks incase I didnt fancy going, but if you can pick and choose its fine. Also prob wouldn't want too long car journey as uncomfortable/ need to pee (but I am still driving 1hr each way twice per week to nearest city at for work and thats fine)

We went away for a week and a half two weeks before my due date with #2. About a four hour drive. I had my notes and knew where the hospital was. My waters broke at 6am on my first morning home.

In England you are unlikely to be more than an hour away from the nearest hospital, so take your green book and enjoy! You probably don't want to plan anything really strenuous though - just relax.
I am 34 weeks and planning on going away to the Lake District in about 3 weeks time for a holiday. Got to check the cancellation policy though - just in case. Apparently 37 weeks isn't even premature anymore...

Thanks for your replies, I’m going to go for it!

I went to Portugal at almost 8 months pregnant and had a lovely time - the worst thing was that I think DH got a bit bored, as all I wanted to do was lie by the pool, walk along the beach and eat nice food, which is very different from our usual action-packed holidays!

I'm glad you're going to go for it - enjoy!
