Absolutely agonising movements...

Is it normal for the movements to be so painful? Im 38 weeks and everyone in RL stares at me like im a freak when I tell them how painful it is. I mean like real pain. It's in my pelvis and feels like she is taking a knife and fork to my bones. Her head hasn't engaged yet but don't think it is this as have been having the pain for about 5 weeks now. The MW doesn't say much but this baby just does not stop moving and sometimes I just want to cry with the discomfort of it all. I don't feel like I can carry on like this for 2 more weeks.

Oooh yes, it can be really painful, particularly if you get a foot under your ribs! I had that for ages and my DD was weeks late! I found that if I lay on my side and rolled onto my back and over to the other side several times she would drop off to sleep.

Alternatively you might find that sitting on a birth ball or dancing calms the little monkey down a bit.

Good luck - the end is in sight!

Thankyou for your reply. Yes walking up and down sometimes helps.

My LO kicked me so hard in the diaphragm that he left me doubled over with pain and winded..... (at 36 weeks)
Only the once thank God!

I seem to remember taking four hour baths when it got really bad and just wallowing. Always used to knock the little bugger out. She's the same now at 10 months old though

Honestly, it's completely normal and it can really hurt and people just don't get that. So you have my sympathy!

BTW the next bit is the baby drops and you have wee every few minutes and s/he has some momentum when administering a kick to the lungs .

Oh gosh, yes, I had the excruciating pelvic pain. I found getting on all fours and rounding my back helped as it seemed to give them a bit more room (had it both times). That helps with rib pain too. I think the pelvic pain was actually the head engaging.

Hi edie! I get this too stabbing pains in my pelvis/pubic bone that make me take a sharp intake of breath and stop what i'm doing! I also get bad cramps on and off and my midwife isn't concered at all! I'm 37+5 and hoping it's sooner rather than later!

Ooh I remember it well. I too spent at least 8hrs a day in the bath towards the end. Usually because I'd get in to calm dd down and was too much of a walrus to heave myself out again so had to wait for dh to come and hoick me out.

I sympathise. I could be mean and tell you it's worse when they engage- ooh those crotch zingers.

Thanks everyone! It's just so reassuring to know that it is normal. Actually the bath thing is a good idea as she is always still in the bath. Will try it. I think also it makes you feel a bit squeamish. Don't get me wrong, I love having an active baby, but as you will all no doubt agree, it comes at a price
