Hi, I'm looking for advice on exercising during pregnancy. I'm 10w along but really anxious so am nervous about going for runs.

Am an Intermitent gym goer and started running late summer although i stopped a few months before I realised I was pregnant.

Do you think weights and moderate cardio is best?

Thanks

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I used to go circuit training 4 times a week prior to getting pregnant, on speaking to my trainer once I found out I was carrying, he advised me to not do any abs exercises, no carrying weights above my head and no strenuous cardio. Basically just do what feels right for you, I knew what my limits were, you'll probably feel the same once you start. :-)

I would ask your midwife. She will know all your medical history and will be able to tell you what's best for you.

I’m 32 weeks and still doing a gym based boot camp class 3 times a week. The basic advice is that if you were doing something before and feel ok then it’s ok. Look into Perceived Exertion Rating which helps you to avoid working too hard.
As @Perry94 said, you’ll need to stop doing abs exercises like crunches, and reduce weights. Later on you need to stop doing exercises flat on your back - but many exercises and be adapted to do on an incline (eg chest press). Your lungs get compressed so you’ll find you get out of breath more easily too. And when you get big you’ll have some physical restrictions (I have to split my legs when I row) and your balance might be off.
Just pay attention to your body and don’t push yourself harder than you worked before - but you don’t have to turn down the effort completely.
If you are able to work with a trainer who can advise on pregnancy exercise that will help you feel confident that you are doing the right things.
And there a big benefits to exercise in pregnancy too... less backache as your core is stronger, less constipation, lower blood pressure, and the labour is likely to be shorter and less complex if you are fit and the recovery quicker. So there are lots of reasons to keep going - just listen to your body.

Thank you so much all. Will need to invest in a better sports bra, I went for a light jog earlier and my boobs were dead!

Listen to your body and do what feels good.

I used to do a lot of body combat before I was pregnant and was advised against this due to the pressure it puts on the hips and the high impact.

I swapped for dance fitness and aqua aerobics which works for me.

I am now 23 weeks and had a little scare today when I nearly fainted in Lidl. I knew I was feeling tired and light headed but went to dance class anyway. Dont ignore your body when its telling you to rest would be my main advice and dont learn the hard way like me!
