Hello all,

This is my first post, we're 8 weeks into our pregnancy and starting to think about where (hospital wise) we'd like to use throughout the journey. We're pretty much in the middle of Treliske, Exeter & Derriford (all around the 50 minute mark, which also has me wondering whether that's quite a long time to get to hospital). We're having our first midwife appointment in a couple of days so will be asking questions then, but I'd love to hear peoples recent experiences.

I'd like to hear about the "new" birthing rooms at Treliske if anyone has any experience of them. All the posts I've read so far have been before it opened.

Thanks in advance Smile

Have you watched the video tour online of the birth unit at Treliske? it looks lovely and a friend of mine had a lovely experience giving birth there. It's where I'm planning to go

Hi! My baby was the first one born in the new rooms at Treliske! I was 40-50 mins away from there, as penrice couldn t accommodate me at the time, but honestly, the staff there were amazing, the rooms are beautiful and relaxing, and I really couldn't have been happier with my first labour and delivery.

I have to add, I had irregular contractions so didn't know how far along I was, and ended up getting there 9cm dilated. I gave birth an hour later, so you should have time, but once you know you're having contractions, it would be best to just head there anyway. They may not accept you onto the ward if youre not far along enough, but you could stay walking round the buildings etc and keep checking in... I know they did that here at the other hospital I gave birth in recently in Kent

Hi Cornishbumpkin, yes I watched the tour earlier. The new rooms do look really good, a little less clinical than the others...

I'm wondering whether they just use the new rooms now or whether you might end up in one of the older rooms.

OneToManyBathtimes, first one born there! All shiney and new just for you Smile. That's a great insight thank you. Did you have to request the new rooms or do they just use them now?

As long as you're not a high risk patient, they'll ask you what you want to do. Some women prefer water births, others prefer being on a bed. DS was a water birth. If possible, see if you can a tour of the facilities, but the online one is also good.
