Frequent urination (TMI) HELP!!

HI there,

I'm 32+ weeks and feel like I need to pee constantly - I actually give in and go about every hour - there's hardly anything there - but the feeling of needing to go never really abates...

It's worse when I walk, bizarrely...

It's very distracting when trying to work, sleeping is just not happening, and generally makes me feel tense and on edge all the time...

I'm drinking a reasonable amount (but not loads - for fear of making the problem worse), and trying to limit my intake after 6pm in order to try and get some sleep, but no matter what I drink or don't drink the feeling is pretty constant.

It's driving me ever so slightly nuts... [crazy emoticon]

Any suggestions for anything I can do to allieviate this?

Help help help...

I think it is just a side effect of pregnancy, I am exactly the same, its just the pressure of lo on your bladder.

Have you been checked to make sure it's not a UTI. I'd phone your midwife or doctor today and asked to be checked.

mishymoo · 31/08/2007 12:19

The things us woman go through - I was exactly the same through my pregnancy! Hardly got any sleep.. but is that the bodies way of preparing you for even more sleepless nights when baby arrives??? I do agree with Tutu though - I would check with MW that you haven't got a UTI!

Naetha · 31/08/2007 12:20

Check its not a UTI (you'll need to make an appointment with your GP) but also a tip is to go for your wee, wipe, stand up, jump up and down a bit (sedately of course!, try(!) and touch your toes, stretch up, and rotate your hips in circles, and then have the rest of your wee. Often the position of your baby means that all the wee can't get out, and jiggling around can allow it to move within your bladder so you can actually pee it out!

On the bright side, this phenomenon should disappear as soon as the baby is born - it came as a quite delightful suprise to me to find I still did have a full-sized bladder in there.

That's people...

I hadn't thought about a UTI... I do't have any other symptoms I would normally associate with this (burning sensation or anything) but it's defintely worth getting checked - luckily Ihave a GP appointment on monday anyway - I'll ask.

I know that FU is a common side effect of PG, and have had it to some extent or other for the last few weeks, and in first trimester - it's just that this week - goodness me, it's just unbearable...

Feeling a little desperate about it TBH (if you'll excuse the pun...) I get panicky at the thought of my 1 hour tube journey home...

Naetha - I'll try yrour acrobatic suggestions - although I fear touching my toes hasn't been possible for several weeks now - I can't even see them, let alone REACH them...

MIshymoo - don't get me started on the 'benefits' of sleep deprivation...!! Others will tell you, I get really ratty at suggestions that it's in any way beneficial - but I think that's what 6 or so weeks of almost NO sleep will do to one's sense of humour...

Typical ain't it - the back/hip pain eases up a bit, I start to thik that maybe, just maybe I might actually get some sleep, and lo and behold, it's replaced by something even worse...

OK. NOT having fun any more...

I know how you feel designerbaby. I don't think once an hour is that much. I'm sure I go more like every half hour .

I had a UTI for over a month when I was about 5-6 months pg (I'm now 33 weeks) and had to take 3 courses of antibiotics which didn't work. In the end I managed to flush it out with gallons and gallons of water.

FWIW, it sounds like normal pregnancy symptoms of baby pressing down on bladder but it's worth getting it checked out at GP or with midwife (make sure they send sample off for full microbiology rather than just the dipstick test which isn't very reliable). I'd up your water intake too. It doesn't particularly make you need to go more, it must means there's more wee there when you do go (sorry if TMI).

BTW, UTIs in pregnancy don't always have symptoms. I didn't have any symptoms when they diagnosed me with a UTI. I think it's called asymptomatic bacteriuria or something. It was nothing like the times I'd had cystitis before I was pg (like you say, burning and pain etc). Def worth checking out.

I know what you mean about the tube journey home. I've just got quite good at getting into routines of knowing at what point in the day to stop drinking. Also, even though it feels horrible and I often feel like I'm not going to be able to wait until I get to work/home, I've never actually wet myself so I think it's more about an uncomfortable feeling rather than any chance of you actually having an accident!

Oh, pelvic floor exercises are meant to help but I can't say they've done much for me.
