Requesting induction at 41 weeks

Morning

Currently 40+3 and I've been doing a lot of reading on the NHS website about induction. Initially I was dead against being induced with my thought process being that baby will come when it's ready, but I've suffered from horrendous SPD that's basically been ignored by my midwife and my consultant (I'm consultant lead due to BMI, not that I've ever seen the same consultant more than once and they've each told me different things!) and now I'm passed my 'due date' I'm losing any ounce of will I had left in me which has made me look at inductions.

One consultant told me that due to the 'risks' associated with my BMI I wouldn't be allowed to go over 40 weeks, however the last one I saw at 36+5 told me they're happy for me to go to 42 weeks before being induced. I have no idea what they base these opinions on, I've no doubt they just pluck a date out of their mind. I asked my midwife the last time I saw her (40 weeks) and the two previous times about sweeps and booking inductions but as I'm consultant lead this is all left to them.

I'm booked in for a scan on Monday where I'll be 40+6 (even though in my notes it's written as a 36 week scan? can they do anything right?) and I'm wondering where I stand with requesting an induction at 41 weeks? I've read a lot about the benefits of inducing at 41 weeks compared to 40+12 or 42 weeks, and despite me originally being anti-induction I can't shake the niggle that baby needs to be out before I reach that maximum date, if not for my SPD but for the baby's own good. I'd still rather go into labour naturally but I'm worried that in one consultants opinion I shouldn't go over my due date (which I already have) and all the info on the NHS site promotes induction at 41 weeks, even for 'low risk' pregnancies?

Has anyone got any experience of requesting induction at 41 weeks?

I am well aware of risks and benefits of inductions by the way!

I was in this position last week. I went for a midwife appointment last Friday at 41 + 1 and burst into tears. I didn't want to be induced but i also was full of fear something terrible would happen to my baby if not born until 42 weeks.

She was great and they booked one for the Monday 41 + 4 and he came on the Tuesday x

@McHelenz that's great news, hopefully I can get something sorted at my consultant appointment on Monday. Congrats!

go in armed with the facts. I have quoted the SWEPIS study at my consultant and already have agreement that I will be induced at 40 weeks with 12 weeks to go as a result.

The NICE guidelines are to offer induction between 41 and 42 weeks. Google NICE induction information for the public. I can't see why they wouldn't offer induction at 41 weeks, but I've never been in the position of having to ask. Good luck
