Siatica pain - any ideas how I can handle it?

I have had problems with pain in my back for the last ten years. My right hand hip and lower back causes me pain which sometimes travels down my leg and I have been seeing a chiropractor for it.

I am 33 weeks pregnant and the pain has started to travel down my leg pretty much all the time - especially from my knee to my ankle. It is so painful I am not getting any sleep at night.

I have tried stretching it, walking, last night I took a paracetamol but nothing seems to help.

Anyone dealt with this who has any ideas what else I can try - it's getting me down.

Hi, I had the same problems during the last stages of my pregnancy and was signed off work for about 4 weeks as I was struggling to walk! Not really sure if there is alot you can do - my MW said physio wouldn't help as they had to be careful, what with being heavily pregnant. Only advice I got was bed rest (not v. comfy), no lifting, no vacuuming, etc, oh and paracetamol!

Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear! Just going on my experience but do understand what you're going through and sympathise!

I had problems start about 27 weeks (am now 39+5) with sciatica which was crippling. My gynaecologist recommended an Osteopath (had never seen one before, and wasn't totally convinced) but I went and as far as I am concerned he has HANDS OF GOD! I have had 3 treatments and within a matter of days I was back up - moving around and no shooting pains, no pelvic pains - I would suggest you try an osteopath. At worse, it will do nothing and I know that with sciatica you are prepared to try ANYTHING!
