Hi im 13 weeks pregnant and was prescribed asprin 150mg yesterday as I'm classed as overweight. After doing some research (google) I feel the dose is high as I'm only classed as moderate risk. Tbh the consultant I saw didn't appear to have a clue. Anyone else taking this amount. Thanks

Hi, I'm taking this amount daily due to low papp a hormone picked up at 12 week scan. I didn't question it to be honest but the risk of not having it in my mind is far greater.

Saf2705 · 23/01/2020 12:55

How many times a day do you have to take it they have told me twice a day, the consultant didn't really explain it to me, is that dose safe then please x

Hi. I've also been told to take 150mg aspirin (x1 daily) as classed as high risk due to pre-eclampsia with my first (single pregnancy) & hypertension with my second pregnancy (twins) & raised blood pressure already with this one (10 weeks today). Happy to take it to reduce the risk of blood clots but I'd maybe double check or get a second opinion that your dose is correct if they've advised twice daily so 300mg as this seems quite high for moderate risk

Hi I have been prescribed a total of 150mg a day but to split the dose through the day morning and night. Thanks for your advice

I take 150mg once a day. The pharmacist suggested taking it in the morning with breakfast. I'm trusting the professionals that they know what they're doing. So far so good, though I know that problems are likely to come in third trimester if they come at all.

Saf2705 · 23/01/2020 15:07

Thank you hope everything goes ok for you xx

I've been told I'll need 150 mg daily if I have any future pregnancies due to placenta failing in my last pregnancy. Was on 75mg aspirin daily throughout it following recurrent miscarriages. Have been told by a consultant that 150mg is still regarded as a very safe dose to take in pregnancy and that the benefits greatly out weigh any potential risks which are very low at that dosage.

shutupsteph · 23/01/2020 15:19

I take 150mg a day due to having a higher BMI - I asked my consultant as it seemed quite high based on 'low' risk and she said that was the standard minimum dose, it used to be 75 but was changed recently?

Halloweenbabyy · 23/01/2020 15:34

I take that dose too

Liveforholidays · 23/01/2020 15:36

This is all very reassuring. Seems that 150mg is the usual dose now. Smile

Saf2705 · 23/01/2020 15:41

That's great thank you for al your advice, when I saw the consultant she just didn't seem to know alot and made me bit uneasy feel much better now thanks x

I've been prescribed 75mg of aspirin daily until the birth and it was explained it was because of my BMI. I ask why that was the case and the midwife explained that it was because I was at the lower end of the BMI group that is flagged for pre eclampsia risks.

Can you call your midwife and clarify the dosage if you're concerned? Always better to check than worry.

I’m on 150 once a day and was told it’s more effective at night by my consultant, but I feel like as long as you take it then it shouldn’t make a massive difference!

The general consensus from the nhs is that 150 is more beneficial than 75.

RedRobin7 · 23/01/2020 19:01

@Liveforholidays I'm also on it for low PAPP-A but was told 75mg. Strange how it varies!

Liveforholidays · 23/01/2020 19:06

@RedRobin7 yes that is odd. Perhaps it varies from trust to trust?

Hall84 · 23/01/2020 19:10

I've been on 150mg at night since quite early on and have been told to stop taking it at 37 weeks so almost there! My consultant explained that there was new evidence for this dose and that it wouldn't have any side effects for me.

Aspirin is blood thinner. During pregnancy you body will produce at 50% more blood than normal to support baby, so all pregnant women are at risk of high blood pressure (Leading to pre eclampsia) and increased risk of blood clots. Those with high bmi therefore have greater risk still as extra weight already caused these risks too. . Dosage will vary on your specifics. Minimum is 75mg once a day. 150 is normal, some will go to 309mv per day.

Usual advice is to stop at 36 or 37 weeks in prep for birth, so that blood can return to normal for birth and reduces any blood loss during birth due to it being thinner.

Goldenmother · 24/01/2020 07:09

I was given that amount when I went for booking in appointment with midwife 2 tablets a night since I've been back for my 16 week appointment and ask for more ask I ran out I'm now only taking 1 tablet a night 75mg
