My Hummy Bear vs Ewan

MissPepper8 · 22/01/2020 21:09

Just want any experiences with a My Hummy bear. I know they're a bit more expensive than a Ewan.

We have had two Ewans, DS really got on well with his Ewan from a few weeks, he's two now and still likes to sleep with it.

Cons are, it eats batteries and with the older version the wires came loose in the feet after time too. But he loves this thing, especially heart beat mode.

From what I understand My hummy is just white and grey noise? So no heartbeat sound? But I've heared really good things about the battery life and the Bluetooth/app thing.

Thanks

We have a bluetooth my hummy and it's fairly battery heavy, but we use is about 14 hours a day and get maybe a month max out the batteries?

I love being able to control it via my phone, and I'm sure it does have a heartbeat, I can check in the morning though!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 22/01/2020 21:36

I have a Myhummy and it has white noise, pink noise and the womb sounds. You can also control it via Bluetooth, equally it can be motion activated, so if you baby starts to wake it'll turn itself on.

I asked this a while ago on here and the general consensus was My Hummy, BUT you have to use it right from the start for it to be effective

Gruffalosandbuffalos · 22/01/2020 21:38

I’ve had both and Ewan was useless as it stops after 20 minutes whereas Myhummy kicks back in when baby stirs. I didn’t bother with the Bluetooth version and just had the normal one. It’s been great for DD and she sleeps well.

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 22/01/2020 21:39

I recommend just downloading some white noise or using Spotify on your phone and putting it next to the cot.

newbingepisodes · 22/01/2020 21:46

I have two kids one 3 year old and one 7 month old we have 4 Ewan's in this house. Two of the old style one where you push his foot - my three year old still has it on every night. And baby has the new deluxe version that comes on when baby stirs. We have a rotation of 12 rechargeable batteries with 4 always in the charger and 8 in two Ewan's. One Ewan spare just in case!

Bol87 · 22/01/2020 21:54

Buy two sets of rechargeable batteries from Ikea & a charger. Save you a fortune no matter which you go for! We invested in loads of recharables last year for toys, they really are a good investment & not that expensive!

Ewan now has a deluxe version that switches back on if it senses movement, so does the exact same as MyHummy. I personally will be going for which ever one is cheaper (we had normal Ewan first time round) as these days we just use white noise playing all night on my daughters tablet as opposed to a toy! It’s free & does exactly the same job! But when babies, I think it’s good for it to come back on to try resettle, so I will get something!

FluffMagnet · 22/01/2020 22:00

MyHummy definitely has heartbeat. 5 sound settings in total, and so easy to control by phone so it is already going by the time we get to the room. We have it running for 12 hours every night, so we do go through the batteries, but DD settles so easily with it. Handy clip to hang it up high in the cot/pram etc.

ALC1985 · 22/01/2020 22:20

Team ewan here! The new deluxe one comes on when baby stirs

giftponderings · 22/01/2020 22:24

I know you've not suggested this, but we have an Ollie the Owl. Plays a lullaby, White noise or heart beat and comes on when baby stirs. Plays for 20 minutes. We love it. Batteries last for 2/3 weeks and we have recharging ones in.

charlesthekudu · 22/01/2020 22:31

There's a little plastic white noise owl on amazon, less than £20. Plugs in and runs unplugged for a few nights. Can clip to pram and has 30m/60m and non stop. Best best thing we did. It's not cuddly but it's non stop / portable and plugs in. Plays a few other melodies too but we only use white noise.

MissPepper8 · 22/01/2020 23:23

Ooh ok ladies, I was wrong then lol, thank you for confirming this and helping out :). I'm going to ask DH what he thinks as my mum has asked what we'd like as a mini gift from them both.

I did read the my hummy info but it seemed to me there was no heartbeat/womb sound (I am set on that sound as it's all DS listens too, until he broke it on the first one).

@newbingepisodes 4 Ewans! They're so expensive too, he wouldn't settle when it broke so we had to give him another, he uses it every night but the batteries are annoying. We did have a battery charger, but lost it, deffo going to look on amazon.

@Bol87 Yeah it's one of those things we need to get but never pick one up, i think it lasts 3 weeks on normal batteries so we're constantly picking packs up incase. We did that on phones but it was easier if it clicked off itself and when we were out I'd strap it to his pram. It is suppose to be a gift from my parents but if it was us saving, I'd probably go Ewan.

@FinallyGotAnIPhone We did this with DS at the start, but found it was easier to give him Ewan next to him, especially as Id fall asleep with it on all night 😂 Plus it's more of a gift from my mum and dad, she wanted to know what we preferred.

@giftponderings @charlesthekudu Thanks both, I will take a look, I didn't know there were others out there, I only found Ewan 3 years back because of amazon.

Buy an Echo dot or Alexa and play ‘baby womb sounds’. Will be cheaper and more effective

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 23/01/2020 07:21

@MissPepper8 ah fair enough. I’m now on baby number 3 and had a fisher price seahorse and white noise on an iPod for the first two and then with this one someone gave me a second hand Ewan. I thought it was ok but seems incredibly expensive when you can just stick a phone nearby and put the timer on to turn off after 20 mins or so. Plus i always have the phone with me if out and about. It’s funny this baby is 9 months old now and still the white noise is a bit like a drug that sends him to sleep pretty quickly ! 😂 good luck with whatever you choose.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 23/01/2020 12:53

We have one of the fisher price seahorses too!! A bit pointless at first, it plays a lullaby and some womb noise (bubbles anyway) and shuts off after 5 min, but now DS is 16 months we've put it in his cot and he loves it. Plays with it before he falls asleep, and he can now put it on himself when he wakes in the night, it's very sweet listening to him chatter to it!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 23/01/2020 13:01

@GrumpyHoonMain genuinely interested, how is it more effective?

GrumpyHoonMain · 23/01/2020 20:01

@Letsallscreamatthesistene - it needs to be loud for it to work which is where the Echo / similar speaker is more effective. The louder the better (need to remember that while in the babies womb all they can hear is vague warbling, mum’s heartbeat, and any other womb sounds).

Shookethtothecore · 23/01/2020 20:04

I also use white noise on the Alexa and found it much more effective than the Ewan we have.

SmileCheese · 23/01/2020 20:11

Another vote here for the exa white noise sleep sound app. It runs all night long and can be adjusted to be loud enough to be effective, the soothers mentioned above are all really quiet in comparison. Plus alexa can be used for so any other things long after baby has stopped needing white noise at bedtime.

MissPepper8 · 23/01/2020 20:20

@GrumpyHoonMain @SmileCheese @Shookethtothecore

It's good to know as we have 2 alexas and I didn't know there was an app so I can stick one upstairs but my mum wanted to choose something to put in her gift for us and this was her idea x

OP posts:
SmileCheese · 23/01/2020 20:33

The app is called sleep sounds, you can get alexa to send you a full list but it includes things like rain, white noise, pink noise and traffic sounds. Its been a life saver with our newborn. Smile

Shookethtothecore · 23/01/2020 20:35

Yep- I litterally just say “Alexa okay white noise” and it started then asked if I wanted to activate the app. If she wants to buy a gift suggest the dot maybe? My elder son had one in his room for Christmas so as others say it can grow with the child so you will get more used to it. Although be warned I just get Ed Sheeran being played at 7am now every morning from his 😏

MissPepper8 · 23/01/2020 23:08

Ah I will have a look at this now, I think I need it more as I can't sleep at all right now lol.

@Shookethtothecore We don't want 2 year old having access to it lol.. He's learned it plays music so we've been having "alexa babyshark on" 😂 it can't work out to play babyshark though as he's added the on part, thank god 😂
